Grandma and Girlie annual day out

Since Alaina has been in school, we've had a tradition of going out shopping before school starts.  We shop for shoes, and usually a shirt and just have fun.  Of course, Ruby has been coming with us for a few years now.
Since school starts here in a few weeks, we had our outing last week.

Here we are at their house, ready for our day.

I told them they could choose where they wanted to have lunch and they chose Culvers. Ruby said their grilled cheese is the best and Alaina enjoyed her cheeseburger.

Then it was off to the mall.  We started by looking for some shoes.  We usually try to find some type of boot, so they have a change from tennis shoes.

Ruby had immediate success!  These were the first boots we saw, and she loved them - and they fit!

Aren't they cute?
We looked around for something for Alaina, but there were no other boots to be found.

We did find these cute sweatshirts.

Then we went to ride the carousel.

And it wasn't running.  Is there any sight so sad as a beautiful carousel with no kids on it?

They went on some other rides instead and had fun.

Here they are walking ahead of me, and it struck me how old they are looking.

I told them they could pick out something from Claire's.  Ruby bounced from thing to thing, exclaiming over it all.  Alaina said "Grandma, you don't have to do that.  We have enough".  :)    That is the difference between being almost 8 and almost 11.

Alaina ended up picking out this little squishy panda.  Ruby got a container of lip gloss that excited her more than shirts or shoes!

On our next stop we found boots for Alaina.  As you can see, she was very happy with them.

Our next stop was to my Dad and Ann's house to bring some flowers.  It was their 15th anniversary!  Unfortunately, Ann was out with her daughter, but great grandpa was happy to see the girls and he knew Ann would like the flowers.

After leaving Dad's house, we stopped to get some ice cream.  It was hot and sunny out.  The girls each got a gummy worm sundae.

We made one last stop at a pick your own flower farm.  They had corn hole games out and the girls tried that out before picking flowers.

We picked sunflowers, zinnia, bluebells and coleus flowers.  Then we went back to their house and gave Laura the flowers.

It was a very fun day.  I always enjoy spending time with them!

Hi Mari - What an awesome day you had! I love that picture of you with your granddaughters. This is a lovely tradition of having fun and making memories. I love the jackets and boots you got for the girls. The girls are looking so mature, and as quickly as time passes, it won't be long until Cassie will be joining with you as well! Have a great week!

What a wonderful and perfect day to spend together as a last shout to summer before school ends! They are growing so much, and they still look so much alike. And they get more beautiful as they grow older. Cute boots and tye-dye jackets!

It's always exciting for the young ones to go shopping for back to school. It's probably exciting for grandmas too especially when you get to mix some fun in the shopping experience. The girls are sure growing up and your dad is looking good!

What a fun day for both you and the girls. I think that's a great idea on the "pick your own flowers." I don't think we have anything like that where I live. It's so nice of you to stop by your dad's house to bring the flowers for their 15th wedding anniversary. I know he appreciates every visit.

What a lovely day for you and the girls. I'm sure they will remember these days long after.
I remember going back to school shopping with my mom and grandmother. :)
I love to play corn hole. I've been wanting Ken to make me a game.

What a great day! I bet the girls love shopping with grandma! We took Maxwell and Levi to Wal Mart a few weeks ago and Levi is still talking about it! I need to start some type of back to school tradition with them!

What a nice way to spend with your granddaughters. Look like you all had a lot of fun. They are so cute. Love the boots! (I'm a boot person, too)

In that second picture they look like twins! I can't believe that Ruby is almost as tall as Alaina. And they look as though they walk exactly the same! Going to the mall with them is identical to going with Dagny -- right down to the shut-down carousel and an eternity dithering at Claire's! Haahahaa great finds though, the boots and sweatshirts! xoxo

Ooohh I love Culvers, we had one near us when we were stationed in Arizona.

I can't believe how big the girls are, my word.

Such a fun, happy day! Love the photos, Mari. Those little ones are growing too fast. I just realized, Ruby 8, Alaina almost ll; my greats Jase 8, Rylan l0. :)

LOVE the boots, so cute. I hope they have a happy school year. It started here last week.

And I know they enjoy spending time with you, too. Such a fun filled day. I really like the boots that each of them found. And I love Alaina's heart...we have enough...how precious. It was good to see a picture of your dad. I continue to pray for him.
