Cooking Thursday

A few weeks ago, a couple of the girls at work were talking about what they were making for supper. One of them said she was making Chicken Puff and when she described it, it was something I've made a lot, but my recipe calls it Chicken Bundles.  It made me think I needed to make it again.  I made them last week, and Bob said he was happy to have them again.

Chicken Puff

8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
5 tablespoons butter melted, reserve 1 tablespoon
3 cups cooked chicken, cubed (may used canned chicken)
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon minced onion
2 -8 ounce cans Pillsbury crescent sheets
3/4 cups seasoned croutons, crushed or sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Blend cream cheese and 4 tablespoons butter until smooth. Stir in chicken, milk, salt, pepper and onion and mix well.
Open crescent sheets and cut into 4 sections. Spoon 1/3 cup of the chicken mix on one side of the crescent.  Pull the other half of the dough over the chicken mix and pinch sides to seal. Place them on ungreased cookie sheet.  Brush with remaining melted butter and sprinkle with crouton crumbs or almond slices
Bake 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

These look so good, Mari! I am not much of a chicken eater, but these look like something I would definitely eat and enjoy. Thanks for the recipe. :-)

Those look so good. How many does the recipe make and how many will it feed? Might be really nice when I have company over. Thanks for sharing.

Great! Sounds easy too. I like easy. I do know I wouldn't substitute canned chicken for the "real" thing tho. lol. More tasty with my own cooked chicken. Agree?!!

In Portugal we call them Pastéis de Frango (chicken pastries) and they are SO good! But I never made them with cream cheese. Hmm...
I think I have to make them one of these days. WITH the cream cheese!
Oh, and I wonder if you could post a picture of your ceramic bird. I would love to see the american brother of my portuguese bird!
:)

Connie - the recipe makes 8 chicken pockets and we think 1 pocket is plenty for a meal. You can also freeze the extras. They freeze well.
Anni - I agree. I like to use my own chicken, but the girls I work with say the canned chicken works in a pinch! :

I often cook chicken breasts in my slow cooker to use for various things. This is something new I am definitely trying! Thanks for the recipe!

Ah, I used to make these quite a bit when my kiddos were younger (so quite a while ago) but had forgotten about them. I need to try these again -I think my hubby will enjoy them! Thanks!
