December came in with a bang! When I went to bed it was raining. The prediction was for more rain during the night with a low of 34. Imagine my surprise when I woke up and saw this:
Icy, slushy snow! I soon found that our cable and internet was out, but we were getting ready to leave for church so that wasn't a problem. We were thankful we had power!
On the way to church. The snow was beautiful, the world looked like a black and white photo. The roads weren't great though!
We have Sunday School before church, which starts at 9am. Bob is teaching a class on the Heidelberg Catechism, and I am going to a ladies study on this book. It's a very good class. Our Sunday School gets done at 10 and church starts at 10:15.
This Sunday was the first Sunday in Advent, and we started by singing some Christmas songs. We also had communion and a very good message.
Church was done shortly before noon. Driving home, we found the roads hadn't improved much and the sky was still pretty dark.
After we had lunch, Bob went out to shovel the drive. He had just blown the leaves, but more came down on top of the snow making kind of a mess.
I got a roast prepared for a men's dinner Bob was going to on Monday. This way I could pop it in the crockpot when I left for work the next morning.
The rest of the day was quiet and relaxing. I read the paper, did a bit of my Bible study and did some meal planning. Mid afternoon our internet came back on so I caught up on some blog reading.
After supper we watched our normal Sunday night show - Midsommer Murder. We are both fans of this show, and tend to like a lot of British tv.
It was a nice, quiet and cozy evening. A nice break before the busyness starts again in the morning. Hope you all had a good start to the month too!

The snow looks so nice! We haven't had any yet. It makes everything so cozy inside!
Sounds like a cozy, restful Sunday. Sometimes it is so nice to be able to stay in and relax and be warm and cozy when the snow flies. I love your Sunday dinner. I also use my slow cooker a lot on Sunday. The only problem with snow is digging out. We are expecting more snow later in the week, but for now, the streets, at least, are dry and snow free. Hope you have a great week.
My husband and I have discovered British television and are currently hooked on the Best British Bakery show.
We got a bit of snow but it didn't amount to much, and your roast looks so yummy! I do like using my crockpot when I can.
Winter has definitely arrived for you. It looks nice. It starting raining today in my world and rain here at this time of year always brings warmer temperatures. Your Women's Bible study group looks like it's studying something interesting and useful. I hope that your roads improve and don't become icy. I appreciate your kind words at my blog today. I got several kind comments and it made my day. Hugs and love to you and have a wonderful week ahead.xx
We have no snow yet but boy has it turned cold. Our church starts at 10.30 and finishes at 12.00. It's only a 5 minute drive from our house which means we now arrive on time. We haven't started singing Christmas carols yet though!
Such a pretty sight but then I do not have to shovel the snow or drive in it which is good as I would have trouble with either one of those chores. Marvin and I are British tv fans as well. I put Shetland season 4 and 5 on my Amazon wish list.
I've been plowing through Midsomer Murder for awhile. I used to watch it on PBS but Prime has all the seasons. You had a very lovely Sunday! I love my crockpot- your roast looks very good!
I wouldn't want to have to drive on those roads! I know people do it everyday but it would scare me to death. I have lived in the desert too long. Pretty little Christmas decoration.
I was wondering if you were to get any of the snow that was forecast for over the weekend. I know it said that it was moving from the west coast to the midwestern part of the country. Our son (in Maine) was to get a foot of snow yesterday and through the night. We got about an inch. We talked with one of our Filipino kids this morning and it is cold there...80* ... LOL
We like Midsommer Murder too! Have you tried The Heart Guy? We really enjoyed it. That road looks treacherous! And cold!! That roast looks yummy!
I love the quiet that a snowy day brings. I also enjoy a bit of British tv.
Hey Mari--
So great to see you blogging still! I happened to look up some old posts I'd written and saw your comment and thought, "Hmmm, I wonder if Mari is still out there?" and here you are!
I do hope all is well in your neck of the woods and that the Lord is continuing to bless you mightily!
Joanne
We certainly did, but without the snow! Mercy! What a surprise. I am afraid I would "phone it in" on such a day rather than go out in it, but then, here, if it snows, everything stops. I bet that roast was good! Thank the Lord for relaxing afternoons/evenings at home. xoxo
