Cooking Thursday

Today's recipe is for Sloppy Joes.  There are so many versions of  this recipe, but this is my go to recipe - so easy and it has excellent flavor!

Sloppy Joe's
2 pound hamburger, browned and drained
1/2 cup chopped onion, optional
4 tablespoons corn starch
2 teaspoons salt
4 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons vinegar
1 cup water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup catsup
2 tablespoons mustard
Put browned hamburg and onions in bowl and microwave on high until hot. Add cornstarch, salt and sugar and stir together. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir together. Microwave on high for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens. This recipe reheats well, so may be refrigerated for later use or just place on low in slow cooker to keep warm.
*This makes a large amount.  I make half of this for Bob and I and it's still enough for a few meals.
**Bob's family always put cheese on their sloppy joes, so that has continued in our home.  You should try it - it's good!

This is so neat, Mari. Have you tried freezing it? It would come in so handy.

YUM. My late mother-in-law had a Sloppy Joe recipe that took all day ... but it was really good. Oddly enough this recipe sounds a lot like it, only a lot faster and easier. I'm going to try this one! Thanks, Mari. xoxo

I wish Joe would eat a sloppy joe. My mom used to do it with a can of mushroom soup and hamburger. It is really good and easy too. We called them Sloppy Helens. It is funny to me that when our son was here while Joe was in the hospital last week, we had lots of time to talk about stuff. I mentioned a few times that his dad wouldn't eat this or that and he told me his mom always said "..your dad is a picky eater", but he didn't know just how picky he still is until we had that talk. I love sloppy joes and this recipe would be good to take to a church pot luck! Thanks!!

I love sloppy joes and this sounds like a good recipe and I like the idea of putting cheese on it too.

I have never made homemade sloppy joes but since this is a favorite weekend food, I think I will add them onto the menu for next week and try your recipe, thanks for sharing.

This sounds good. I've only had sloppy joes from a can, with added browned hamburger, of course.
