We started in the city itself.
Beautiful skyscrapers...
cobblestone streets...
and such pretty places to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
Then we went to the Stock Yards. It was like stepping into a different time.
We walked around for a little while, then took a spot on the side of the main road to watch the Cattle Drive which happens twice a day. Cowboys on horses lead long horn cattle right down the street. Take note of the original brick road!
The cattle are quite amazing. As they walk, they swing their heads, which we were told helps the blood flow to the horns. The horns are different than other animal horns, in that they are living. If the horns are cut off, the animal would die.
We took a tour of the area on this wagon.
The old cattle stockades are still standing.
The area that used to be used for loading cattle on railroad cars has been renovated and is now filled with a variety of shops that we enjoyed wandering through.
By the time we were done, it was late afternoon and we began the drive back to our hotel in Waco.
We stopped on the way back for supper.
We had steaks at the Saltgrass Restaurant. The steaks were so good, and a perfect end to the day.

I am enjoying my trip to Texas....greaat reference for my plans for the future.
Oh, what a lovely way to spend the day! I especially liked the stockyards part. I love the old original brick street. There are a couple of those in Morgantown and I'm so glad that they were never covered over with concrete.
So neat, all of it! The little shops in the railroad cattle loading barn would be my favorite....and the carriage ride! Oh, can't forget the steaks ☺
Awesome Mari. I love seiing DFW inside with AC. lol

Good grief! Now I don't know how I'm going to live without visiting Waco, Austin, and Fort Worth! That cattle drive is fascinating! And all the beautiful sights in those cities are just amazing. You're always telling me that the most interesting things happen to me, Mari ... but I think that's YOU! Haahaaha! Thanks for sharing your great pictures and stories of the Lone Star State. xoxo
