I picked up a package of Cube Steaks recently because they were on sale. It's not something I've used before so I put them in the freezer and looked for a recipe. I found one that sounded good and tried it last week. It was delicious! The meat was tender and full of flavor.
I'll definitely be making it again.
4 cube steaks
3 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons butter
1 large yellow onion, sliced in 1/4 inch slices
Meat seasoning:
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Sauce:
2 tablespoons cornstarch
15 ounce can beef broth
1 teaspoon beef better than bouillon
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Combine meat seasoning ingredients and set aside.
Sauce - Combine broth and cornstarch and whisk until smooth. Stir in remaining sauce ingredients and set aside.
Place Saran Wrap over each steak and use meat tenderizer to flatten to about 1/2 inch thick.
Rub meat seasoning into each steak, then rub with flour.
Heat olive oil in skillet, then sear steaks for about 2 minutes on each side.
Remove steaks from skillet and place in crock pot.
Melt the butter in the skillet, then add onion slices. Cook for 10-15 minutes until tender.
Add sauce mix, bring to a simmer until slightly thickened.
Pour onions and sauce over meat in crock pot.
Cook on low for 6 hours.
Serve over mashed potatoes, noodle or rice with green beans or carrots.

This looks so good!!
Looks great - the Au Ju - the mashed potatoes. Was the cube steak easy to chew - I have made some that are tough.
That sure looks good and sounds good. I was just surprised that it needed to cook so long in the crock pot. I thought cube steaks were already tenderized and could be cooked quickly? But maybe it's to get them seasoned and flavored so well and also even more tender. It sure looks good! Thank you for the recipe!
this is very similar to how mother made her cube steak. I used to make them a lot, kids loved them, so does hubby
YES! I will for sure be trying out this recipe. This dish looks delicious and it also reminds me of the way my mom cooked...Good, warm and hearty meals...
Mmmm! I never thought of the crock pot for cubed steak! I haven't bought it in years and years, and recently picked up a package that was marked down, simply pan seared them, and ate them with salt and pepper, they were so good I bought them again! I will try this recipe though, thank you!
I made a chicken fried cube steak - same way my mom cooked it. Never ever considered it for the crock pot. I’ll have to try this. It looks delicious.
Thank you so much for the recipe! It's another one to add to my recipe collection. It looks and sounds amazing.
I do something very similar with stew meat in the crock pot and then serve it over rice or potatoes. It's one of my favorite meals. I will keep this recipe and try it with the cubed steaks. Looks delicious. Comfort food for sure!
Oh my goodness - this makes my mouth water!! 😋
Mmm. I''ve never made cube steak. I hope I remember to look for it on my next trip to the grocery store because I'd like to try this recipe.
Sounds good and I sure do like mashed potatoes too.

À good winter dish!
That does look tasty.
All the best Jan
This looks so good and hearty! Perfect for a cold night. Gonna save this one so hubby can try it!
Looks good.
I'm definitely printing this out.
Oh mercy! I love cube steaks as my mother used to make them when we were kids. She breaded and fried them and it was one of the most delicious and anticipated meals, served with her rice and gravy! But I've copied this and I'm definitely going to try it. TG will love this! Thanks, Mari. xoxo
