The Polish Sisters

Several years ago we had a resident at our Nursing Center named Esther Rose.  She was a character!  She was feisty, she was funny, sometimes she was sad and confused, but when she smiled at you it would make your day.  We get to know some of our family members pretty well, and sometimes a friendship is born.  Occasionally that friendship continues, even when the resident passes and this was the case with Esther Rose.  Our business office manager, Becky and myself became good friends with Esther's daughter Rosalyn and daughter-in-law, Bonnie.  Esther was Polish, so when Becky and I were kind of adopted into the family we called ourselves the Polish sisters.  We even put up with brother Roger and we tease him as all good sisters do!
We've had lots of good times together, but lately haven't been able to see each other as often as we did due to busy schedules.  Both Rosalyn and Bonnie read this blog, so when I saw something funny this week that made me think of the Polish sisters, I knew I had to post it.  The rest of you can just laugh at the funny pictures that follow.

That was a long introduction to explain why these pictures made me laugh. Now here's the rest of the story.
I was at work last week and our therapy director showed me pictures of some of her new chickens.  I thought they were so funny, and asked what kind of chickens they were as I had never seen this variety.  She said they were Polish hens!  That made me think of the Polish sisters.

My friends don't really resemble these hens, but I think Esther Rose may have given me the same look as that top hen a time or two.  And, if this quarantine goes on for too much longer, my hair may look similar to them!

Yes, I think a lot of us with look like those chickens. So good you have been able to establish friendships with those you work with. Have a good Tuesday. I am glad you are able to be back to blogging again!

Esther Rose would definitely have laughed at the idea of the Polish hens. She had a great sense of humor—-e.g. Becky losing her marbles, asking Annie if she should tell the aide the stuffed cat wasn’t real, waving at the pope, and of course, pulling the fire alarm at 2 am—-twice! ANH wasn’t our first choice for mom, but God chose it for us. Thanks Mari from mom.....You are still a blessing to all of us...with love from the Polish sisters

A great story and memory. Lots of us will have hair that looks like the chickens before too much longer at home! Have a good Tuesday.

UGH...this issue of being shutdown and no barbers/beauty salons is really having a negative affect on me...and I quite agree. NY is not ending the shutdown anytime soon, he even has stated that barbershops and beauty salons are non essentials (while he has his hair cut). ANYWAYS--I'm rambling as usual...

Have a beautiful day, Mari.

That is a heartwarming story and sure speaks to the love you and your staff show your patients and their families. Those hens are so expressive and my hair already looks like theirs!! LOL Thanks for the warm story and for the giggles!

I want to go on record that I still have half a bag of marbles - haven't lost them all yet I believe it was also "mom" that thought I was the prettiest sister (the fact she could be confused should not factor in!). Such sweet memories, a beautiful smile and Polish sistas (and Roger too) - blessed to have been welcomed in to the family - the Tall Polish Sista
