A new house!

Our Heather and Andrew purchased their first home!  It's been a hard thing.  In our area, home sales have been booming so there were multiple offers or it would be sold before they even made an offer.  But, they knew God had a plan for them and they ended up with this cute home!

They got the keys last week.  It's in a quiet little neighborhood, has a nice garage to the back and a fenced in back yard.

Our initial finds included:

This old microwave...

and a big box of assorted wines hidden under the basement stairs.

It's in good condition but needs some TLC.  The guy that was living there didn't seem to know how to clean.  The kitchen especially was filthy.
I spent Saturday afternoon with them and Bob came by after work to do a little work.  Heather and I tackled the kitchen - cleaned all the cabinets and lined them, cleaned the stove and Heather cleaned the refrigerator.  In the meantime, Andrew was working hard pulling up grubby carpet in the master bedroom and stairway.  Thankfully there is nice hardwood floor underneath.

Here's the master bedroom with the carpet removed.  The doors on the side provide nice access to attic space.

Bob and Andrew hard at work pulling up tac strips and nails after the carpet was taken off.

All the interior doors have these pretty glass knobs.

Bob was working on the lock on the slider.  You can see the nice garage behind him.

Here's the living room.  I love the book shelves and the curved window nooks.  The fireplace needs some work - someone put stucco with glass stones on it, so that's a project for later!

I'm sure you'll see more pictures as things are worked on.  They have a few weeks to do some painting and projects before they move in.

I LOVE it!!! Just perfect for a young energetic couple! The first house we bought was big and needed a LOT of cleaning out, cleaning, repairs, paint, EVERYTHING!! This is so exciting for them!

What a nice house, Mari, congratulations to Heather and Andrew. It has lots of possibilities. I do like those built in bookcases and the window casements. He hardwood floors look in good shape too. It takes me back, the first home my Steve and I bought was a little Cape Cod style house in just that shade of yellow. They are lucky to have you both.

I am so glad to read that Heather and Andrew have their new home! The floors are lovely and I really like the living room. Fun to have so much of their lives before them to work on it and then to enjoy it, too.

What a gorgeous home! It will take some work, but all this work being done will restore it to its former beauty before very long! So very exciting for them to have their own home, and I'm sure they're very glad for you and your husband's help! It will be fun to decorate and move in such a cozy darling little spot!

Mari, I love this home . . . it so pretty, the curb appeal is so welcoming, and the yellow paint and the (whatever you call it) above the front floor . . . wonderful! I really like the curved ceiling in the master bedroom and those hardwood floors are great. There is so much charm built in that they can work with, the nooks around the fireplace, adorable, but I do agree the fireplace needs a facelift. All in all it is a gem. How exciting to be buying their first home, I remember ours, so many years ago. Here's to a little home bursting from the seams with many years of love and happiness :)
It's exciting seeing young people take this step into home ownership.
God bless you and your family,
Connie :)
