Winter is here!

We've had a most unusual winter in West Michigan this year. Until this past week, we've had only small amounts of snow. However, last week winter came with a vengeance.  We had very low temps - 1 degree one morning and 5 degrees the next.  Along with that came lots of snow.  Living near Lake Michigan, we are often hit with lake effect snow.  When the cold air goes over the warmer water, it picks up moisture which is then released in the form of snow when it hits land.  This week, it meant we got 16 inches of snow, from last Sunday through Saturday.  Lots of shoveling and slippery roads resulted!  Another result was lots of beauty!

This is my road.  My house is in the trees, just past that pine tree on the left.

The snow transforms the clothesline into something that looks like it came from Dr Seuss.

The lanterns that line our front path can hardly be seen.

This picture was taken out of a window at work.  The world looks black and white - and beautiful!

Love your snow pictures and I'm so glad we didn't get snow. The tiny bit of ice we got was enough. I think most of it had melted completely away by mid afternoon. I'm looking forward to spring.

As much as winter is not my favorite time, I still can't help but marvel at its beauty. Your Dr. Seuss one is cool, looks like a scarf!
Happy week to ya, Mari!

Where did you get the total 16 inches from? Just curious b/c I heard I thought on the news that around here it was 22 inches.

Amazing pics. If you are going to get snow it might as well be as beautiful as you have shown.

I was wanting to get out and get lots of winter wonderland photos this past week. But the crazy week didn't allow for it. Glad you got some fascinating photos!

Beautiful...from indoors. I wish we had the moisture in an other form...like rain. We are now sitting on a high fire alert with hot, dry winds.

I really really like your roadway to your house and the one from the window at work!!!

That's truly gorgeous. If only one could have the beauty of the snow without the inconvenience! When you said lake effect it reminded me of something funny. We lived for many years near Chicago, which also gets a fair amount of lake effect snow. But when I would tell TG there was snow in the forecast and we were "supposed" to get x number of inches, he'd always say "Lake effect." And it made me mad because the way he said it made it sound like it wasn't real snow, that we weren't REALLY going to have a snow, just a "lake effect." Well, I've seen him shovel a heap of lake effect in his life, and I would just laugh when he'd rub his aching back and say, well dear, it's only lake effect, I don't know what you're complaining about. LOL

I agree it truly is very beautiful and fantasy like looking into another world. But I still hold my stance on not liking winter.!!!
