A surprise hospital visit

I hope you will excuse my absence from my blog and from commenting on all of yours! I have been visiting all of you but haven't had time to comment due to my daughter Heather deciding to spend a little time in the hospital! On Sunday, she said her stomach was a little painful in the afternoon. We had a bible study group to go to in the evening and she was going to be home. When we came home about 8:30 she said "I'm so glad you're home, there's something wrong with me!" She said the pain had moved to her right side and was so bad she could hardly move to stand up. On that note, we headed for the ER. They immediately started running tests. We found out that being female was a disadvantage in this case because they did extra tests to check her ovaries and uterus. After blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound and cat scan, we were told that she needed her appendix out. She was a real trooper through all this. The Dr and nurses were really impressed by how well she handled the pain. They brought her to a room and said surgery would be in the morning. By this time it was 3 am. We headed home to sleep for 2 hours and freshen up a bit. When we got back to the hospital in the morning, they were getting ready to send her off to the OR. Surgery went well and the Dr said the appendix definitely needed to come out. Here are Bob and Heather napping in the room after surgery.
The room she was in was really nice. It was private, with it's own shower (although she couldn't use it) It had a plasma TV which was also connected to the Internet. I didn't find out about the Internet until late in the evening or I would have been catching up on all of your blogs!

Here is the front page of the menu. The patients and their families may order from this at any time from 7 am to 7 pm. They don't bring regular trays - just what the patient wants. Family does get a nominal charge for things they order, but it is really reasonable. Our supper only cost $9. The nurses on this floor were really great, very quick to answer the call bell and each one was very nice. Heather was able to come home about 9:30 Monday evening.

Here she is resting at home. She will be able to go back to school next week and to work in 2 weeks. She's pretty sore right now and walks stooped over like an old women. Bob and I are also feeling much better after getting a night of sleep! We really appreciate the prayers from so many of you who left me messages or e-mailed. God is good! (all the time!)

Mari, I am so thankful that you were able to get this resolved before her appendix burst. God is good and faithful to his children!

Give Heather my best and I will be praying for a speeding and complete healing for her. I've watched my daughter go through surgery and it's no fun. Make sure she gets tons of TLC :o)

That hospital room was nice! I think I'd have acted a little sicker to stay there longer. :)

I'm glad she's home and doing well too!

I think she should have stayed longer - that looks like a nice place (not that I want to go there any time soon) Now you start resting up too - you've got a big day ahead of you on Friday.

Glad you're doing better, Heather! Love ya!

Wow! Isn't it amazing how fast life can change? Stuff like that always serves to make me thankful that we have been blessed with overall great health.

I can sympathize with Heather... I didn't have appendicitis, but I did have a ruptured ovarian cyst that went misdiagnosed for several days, with INTENSE pain (worse than all 3 of my deliveries!!) until infection started in, fever, lethargy, etc... When a doctor finally would listen to me, he thought at first it might be appendicitis... the symptoms were very similar and I was sent immediately to a surgeon at the hospital. By that time, I didn't care about much! :) Anyway, what a trooper... and I'm glad she is on the mend. It takes awhile!

I'm also glad she had YOU! First thing I did after the first doctor sent me home to "I don't know, try a hot bath..." as she said (gag), was call my mom, crying... "HELP!" Moms are the best.

Hi Mari!
I have been looking at your sweet picture, and reading your thoughtful comments on so many of the blogs I read that I thought I should come 'meet' you in person!

I've been having a great time reading your blog, and look forward to reading more!

I hope that Heather is feeling better, and that her recovery goes quickly. How great for her that she has her parents so close!

I'm glad Heather is doing well. She looks so peaceful laying there sleeping.

I too noticed the stuffed animal. We are never too big for a little cudding with our favorite plush toy.

I continue to pray for a speedy recovery.

Blessings,
Mary
