We're Home!

Bob was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and is happy to be home. I'm happy to report that all of his test reports were good and showed no problems. He will have to see our Dr next week for a follow up. If he has any further problems you can be assured that I won't let him ignore them! On the one hand, I'm happy that they didn't find damage or problems, but it's also frustrating because I'd like to know what was causing the issues he had. He has tomorrow off work and goes back on Wednesday. He is supposed to avoid stress and any hard physical labor. I guess I'll be doing the driveway the rest of the winter! (and as I told him - I'm happy to do it!)
We so appreciate all of your prayers. It is really humbling to know that people from all over the world are praying and we thank you all. Please keep praying that the Dr's get to the bottom of this.
You may be wondering what the picture has to do with the rest of this post. It's showing a bracelet that I bought at the hospital gift shop. The words on it say: "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord." Jeremiah 29:11 I've always liked that verse and thought it was really fitting for a health scare. Isn't it reassuring that God has plans for our lives? The rest of the verse says: "plans to prosper you, and not to harm you". That doesn't mean that everything that happens to us will be wonderful, but it does mean that God is taking care of us and even when bad things happen they can be used for good by Him. We also have to remember that God sees the "big picture," when we only see a little portion. Knowing this sure does help during difficult times!

A surprise hospital visit

I hope you will excuse my absence from my blog and from commenting on all of yours! I have been visiting all of you but haven't had time to comment due to my daughter Heather deciding to spend a little time in the hospital! On Sunday, she said her stomach was a little painful in the afternoon. We had a bible study group to go to in the evening and she was going to be home. When we came home about 8:30 she said "I'm so glad you're home, there's something wrong with me!" She said the pain had moved to her right side and was so bad she could hardly move to stand up. On that note, we headed for the ER. They immediately started running tests. We found out that being female was a disadvantage in this case because they did extra tests to check her ovaries and uterus. After blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound and cat scan, we were told that she needed her appendix out. She was a real trooper through all this. The Dr and nurses were really impressed by how well she handled the pain. They brought her to a room and said surgery would be in the morning. By this time it was 3 am. We headed home to sleep for 2 hours and freshen up a bit. When we got back to the hospital in the morning, they were getting ready to send her off to the OR. Surgery went well and the Dr said the appendix definitely needed to come out. Here are Bob and Heather napping in the room after surgery.
The room she was in was really nice. It was private, with it's own shower (although she couldn't use it) It had a plasma TV which was also connected to the Internet. I didn't find out about the Internet until late in the evening or I would have been catching up on all of your blogs!

Here is the front page of the menu. The patients and their families may order from this at any time from 7 am to 7 pm. They don't bring regular trays - just what the patient wants. Family does get a nominal charge for things they order, but it is really reasonable. Our supper only cost $9. The nurses on this floor were really great, very quick to answer the call bell and each one was very nice. Heather was able to come home about 9:30 Monday evening.

Here she is resting at home. She will be able to go back to school next week and to work in 2 weeks. She's pretty sore right now and walks stooped over like an old women. Bob and I are also feeling much better after getting a night of sleep! We really appreciate the prayers from so many of you who left me messages or e-mailed. God is good! (all the time!)
