Making a Christmas Village

Saturday was a fun day at our house!  Alaina and Ruby came over for the day. We had big plans for the day and they were so excited.
My friend Catherine, from My Home and My Garden, had sent some kits for making card stock houses for the girls to make.
Catherine lives in France, and when she posted some of these little houses she made, I wondered if they could be found in the states. She's so sweet and a few days later, I got an email that she was sending some our way.
Alaina and Ruby thought it was so special that someone would send them something from France!

Here's all the things she sent - 2 packages of Kraft houses, some sample black houses, and also some Christmas card making supplies.

We put on Christmas music to be in the spirit while we did these Christmas things!  And the girls started by making some cards. They wanted to thank Catherine and they had fun picking out different things to put on their cards for her.  Bob joined them for a while, he was working on a carving.

Then they started on the houses.  They came one to a sheet and were perforated and pre-folded.  It came with white chalk makers to decorate with.  You can see the details Alaina is adding to hers.

Here's Ruby, punching all the windows and doors out of one of her houses.
After they each got two houses done, it was time to take a break for lunch.

We had macaroni and cheese for lunch.  They had to help make it and said it was so good!

After lunch, they got back to it and did the next two houses. It was fun seeing how they each decorated their houses in their own unique way.

While waiting for the glue to dry on them we played Mantis, which is a fun card game they love.

Here's Ruby with her finished village.  I forgot to mention that there were cars, snowmen and trees included!

Here's Alaina with hers! You can see we put vellum in some of the houses.

Here they are together.  I got little fairy lights to put in them when they got them home. They were so excited to show their Dad and Mom what they made.
Thank you again Catherine.  You made them so happy!

What a thoughtful lady Catherine is! I love those houses and follow a lady on YouTube who has a love for the same types of villages. I want to add some to our Christmas decor next year.

Alaina and Ruby did such a nice job on their villages. So creative...and each of their personalities show in the way they decorated their houses, etc. Such a fun project!

That is such a fun thing to do! How nice of Catherine to send them to you! I know Hobby Lobby has a bunch of kits for kids to make stuff but I don't think they have anything like that.

Oh my word - how adorable are these?? What neat kits and they did such a beautiful job on them. I love the touches they added. :) And what a brilliant idea to add the vellum to them so they can light up like real windows. What Christmas Sweeties with the most fun grandparents around! xoxo
