Easy tie dye shirts

When the girls were over, we made some easy tie dye style shirts. I saw some fabric paint in spray bottles in Hobby Lobby. It was in a package of 6 with colors I knew the girls would love.  Hobby Lobby also sells plain t-shirts for a very reasonable price.

Here's what the bottles looked like.

So I got the paint and t-shirts and on Saturday we got ready to decorate some shirts.

They each chose different ways to paint their shirts.

Ruby just wanted random colors sprayed on her shirt, so we put parchment paper inside and laid it out to wrk on.

Alaina wanted hers twisted up in the more traditional tie dye method.  So we rolled it up and put brown paper on the table to protect it.  She sprayed it with one color, then opened it a little and sprayed another color, them repeated it with one more color.

Here are the finished shirts.  The nice thing is, you really can't make a mistake!

We made one for Cassie too and it was a mix of both styles.  First we twisted it and Alaina did her spraying, then we opened it and Ruby added spots of color.

Here they are with Cassie and her shirt.
This was such a fun and easy project!

Just passing with a little tip...

Caring for Your Tie Dye..

Here is helpful tip for keeping your tie dye bright
wash after wash..
Try soaking your tie dye in equal parts white vinegar
and cold water for 30 minutes after you initially rinse
out the dye from your garment...
The vinegar helps with colorfastness...

Perhaps a little tie dye hat for Cassie would suit..! :O).

Mari, those girls are growing up making so many wonderful memories with you. What children need most is someone to spend time with them and I love that you do that. I'm so tired of seeing children being baby-sit by the TV or video games.

Tie Dye in spray bottles?? My girls are always talking about making their own clothes and I'm like no way, you'll make a mess, but this looks great. I need to investigate!!

Oh my goodness that is brilliant! I am going to have to do one with Dagny. They all look so precious but I LOVE Alaina's dress although it makes me wistful to see how grown-up she looks. I hope you don't mind that I copied that last picture to my desktop and titled it AlainaCassieRuby821 so that I can look at it whenever I want. Precious girls. xoxo
