Instantpot review

After I posted about my Instantpot, several of you asked for a review or more information on it. So, here's a little more information.
This is the model I have.  This link is from Amazon, however mine is from Kohls.  If you are patient, you can get one for a pretty good price.  They often have them on sale, and then if you have one of their 30% off coupons, you can get it for a little over $50.
It is intimidating to use at first, but I was talking to several people from church who have one, and they gave me some good tips.  First, do a steam test which is something they recommend in the instructions.  It just gives you a good way to try it out, and to make sure everything is working well.
The next thing I did was boiled eggs.  I take a boiled egg in my lunch quite often, and I think this is the easiest way to boil eggs ever!  You put about 1 1/4 cups water in your pot, then put eggs in the basket.  I usually do 6 at a time, but you can do more.  You push the steam button and then set the timer to 4 minutes.  It takes a few minutes to come to pressure, then counts down.  When the timer beeps, you release the steam and put the eggs in ice water.  That's it - you are done.  The yolks are just a little soft, and they peel so easily!
Another thing that amazed me was cooking frozen chicken breasts.  I buy bags of frozen chicken and did a whole bag.  1 cup of water in the pot, put the chicken on the trivet that comes with the Instantpot and set it on Manual, high pressure for 20 minutes.  When it's done, let the pressure release naturally.  The chicken is so tender and good - perfect for anything you need cooked chicken for.
I've put together a few freezer meals, that can go right into the pot.  If I'm working late, Bob can start them and they are done by the time I get home.
I've also done rice in it and decided that I no longer need a rice cooker
In short - I love this thing!  I use it frequently and have been trying new things in it all the time.  If your have one, you need to try it out.  If not - watch for sales!
A site that I have enjoyed for recipes is This Old Gal.  She has tons of recipes that are family friendly and easy.
You can do more than just main dishes too!  On Thursday, I'm sharing the recipe for an amazing dessert!

I saw on FB this morning that a friend of mine wants to buy one and EVERY place, even Amazon, is out of them right now!! She was going to try to buy one right from the company that makes them. They have taken the country by storm, hahaha! Some day I hope to get one. Jeremy was telling me about how easy it is to make good beans from dried ones. They end up soft, but not split apart.

Wow. You can get an instant pot for a very inexpensive price there. here is at least twice that much. Though sometimes there is a very good sale where you can get one (only 6 qt. with no ability to make yogurt) for about $70 plus tax. This is the best deal you can find here but I wanted an 8 quart since I love to make big pots of soups/stews. so glad you are enjoying the instant pot.

Sounds like a good item to have. With the lives we live these days, anything that helps prepare quickly or ahead of time is wonderful. Thanks for the review.

How long does it take to cook rice?

I keep going back and forth on whether or not to get one. Thanks for the review. I'm still undecided but everyone is raving about them. Maybe I'll have to get one the next time I have a 30% off from Kohls!

You and my son could do commercials! I love it! He keeps telling me that I really should get an Instant Pot...so I am going to start watching for sales. Thank you for this wonderful review, Mari. I'll be watching for the dessert recipe!

Thanks Mari!! I can see it is a real time saver for a working woman like you!! I still get scared of pressure cookers, no matter what they are called. Maybe I can read more about it and get over my phobia.

Okay, Mari. I'm just about ready to get mine out again. I've had it more than a year and only used it once. The learning curve seemed daunting to me. I will check out the link you gave to us, take a deep breath and see what I can do. Mine looks just like yours, by the way. Thanks for the pep talk!
