Our Nursing Home has been anticipating a big construction project. It was supposed to start late last summer, but there is a lot of red tape in a project like this, and by the time it was approved, winter had come.
There has been some heavy equipment sitting near the building now since February, just waiting for the ground to thaw, and that happened this past week.
The residents have been enjoying watching this equipment at work!
They tore up half of the parking lot...
and we were sad because they also took down some trees.
They are putting in a new parking area, as an addition is going where much of our old parking lot is.
With the snow and rain we've been getting it's a muddy mess! This project is expected to last about a year, so I guess we better get used to it, but it will be worth it in the end.

I love watching this kind of thing and the progress that happens over the weeks! I bet the residence are very entertained!
I have a friend, 93, in a nursing home. She loves to watch projects like this. She pulls up her comfy chair to the window and is thoroughly entertained! I know it will be very nice when completed.
Hopefully the ground will dry up soon and they can make some progress. Seems like rennovatiions take forever but it's so neat to watch the changes day by day
Arrrrrghhh I hate it when trees go. But I hope every renovation and improvement makes life at the nursing home better for the residents and for you and your colleagues. xoxo
I am sure that any new thing is good for your patients. I love watching big machines myself!!
Wow! Looks like some exciting time ahead!! I bet the residents will have lots of fun watching the progress. ;)
xoxo
But it will be so nice when they get it all done.
Good the residents have something new to watch for a whole year.
...and it'll keep the residents entertained.
Whoa Nellie! Huge project but as you said, Mari, worth it in the end, and entertainment for your precious ones who live there.
xoxo
That's going to be nice when it gets done. How fun for the residents to be entertained :)
It is kind of exciting when changes are being made and it's kind of nice that the residents will be able to watch and anticipate!
This will be a new entertainment for the residents. Days can get long and boring, and the activity outside the windows will liven up their time. They should write stories about looking out the rearview window or something. :)
I hope you'll post "status" pictures of it during the year that it will take to be built.
Richmond, VA, is planning to put up a statue of Maggie Walker, a famous banker from the past, and the residents are upset because an old tree has to go. I understand how they feel, but does anything last forever?
I'm glad that the residents can have fun watching. When I was a teenager I worked in the dining room of a big retirement home. Over those years the farm fields across the road were transformed into a huge mall. It was SO interesting to watch it happen. The mall's name is Park City, near Lancaster. Don't know if you and your sister were there when you were in the area or not.
