8 random facts

I was tagged last week by Nancy at In my Neck of the Woods and Kim from Scattered Stones to do a random fact meme. I have procrastinated long enough and decided to get it done, so here a a few random facts about me.

1. I am the oldest of 4 kids. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters.
2. My mom wanted to name me Melody, but my Dad nixed it.
3. My name is really Maribeth, but most people call me Mari (pronounced Mary).
4. I am called Maribeth at work because when I started working in the hospital there were too many nurses named Mary on my floor. The person who hired me when I moved on to the Nursing home, knew my from the hospital so the name followed. (That's enough about my name!)
5. I have never been on a plane
6. I had my first child when I was 21 and my last one was born when I was 27.
7. I grew up on a farm.
8. I was once caught by the police when toilet papering our youth leaders home. I was with friends and we thought it was some boys from our church so we took off running. Imagine my surprise when in the darkness I ran into a police officer! Believe it or not, this was something we did to people we liked, and our youth leaders knew this, so we didn't get into any trouble. We were teased about it for quite some time.

That's my list. I am supposed to tag 8 people but I've seen this on lots of blogs already. If you haven't done this one, consider yourself tagged.

Thanks for sharing your great list! Loved hearing about your name, and good to know as I've been thinking of you as Mar-ee (very Australian way of saying Mary in fact!). You've never been on a plane..wow...any reason? I've had more flights than I care to mention, but living on a small Island (as I did) the best way to get to mainland England and beyond was by Plane. How have you travelled to other countries...imagines you looking glorious in hat, and evening wear on a cruise.

Wow- I didn't even know that mom wanted to name you Melody- I like Mari much better!
That's so funny about the TP incident- I got busted doing that too!

Hi Mari!!

Just starting to venture out into blogworld again. I'll be catching up on your posts over the next few days. :)

My mother in law's name is Mary Beth. No middle name, just Mary Beth. Her sisters call her Mary. It's a pretty name. :)

Thanks for the info about you. These are so fun!

Karen - I have never flown because I've never gone anywhere that called for it. We've only travelled in the states and have driven there. As for the cruise you mention - I don't like evening wear and don't look to great in a hat, but it's a nice thought!

Are you scared to fly or just never had a reason?
The police incident is hillarious! I think I would have had to "use" some of that tp if that had happened to me.
Smiles!

Maribeth,
I love it. I want to name a girl Melody. (hoping the Lord will give us a joyful Melody to hold some day)
I never did the TP thing. That had to be some memory. :)
I had my first child when I was 20 and turned 21 a week later---we just haven't stopped. :)
You are gonna have to ride on a airplane---maybe you can come to Japan. That will be one LONG plane ride though. :)

I guess it's a good thing Grandpa was around for all these names Grandma came up with! :) And it's pretty funny that all the nurses were Mary at the hospital - is that why they called it St. Mary's?

Ah yess, the joys of toilet papering. I always knew it as a fun prank, but people around here don't have that sence of humor about it. I snicker to myself every time someone calls to "report" it to the police

I had Tori ask me a few weeks ago about TP-ing. Would it be ok or is it a sin or what?? Hmmm.... I told her that it's not really right but I've done it when I was younger and I can think of far worse things (like defacing property, etc.). She comes up with some strange conversation sometimes.

I've known you as Marybeth forever. I am finally used to "Mari" since blogging. We had several Mary's in our class leaving you and Marybeth VJ to remian Marybeth to me.

Ah, the toilet papering. We got in trouble on a youth retreat at Cran Hill for tp-ing the ranch house. It was all in fun, but someone had to clean up the mess.

I did not know Mom wanted to name you Melody. You are not a Melody. Do you notice that Dad got his way on both of our names?
I'm hoping that everyone else is noticing that I am the only innocent one in the family that did not do something illegal - TP'ing. Goes along with my perfect driving record!!!

No flying?? That just amazes me since flying has been my career. I think you should try it sometime-maybe to come to SC for a visit?? Hint, Hint...

These were so fun to read. My father-in-law has never been on a plane...he just says he's never had the need.

I love your name. My sister is named Mary Beth. I like Melody, too, but I think your unique spelling of Mari is so very cool!

Thanks for sharing more about you!!
