Alaina and Ruby spent the night with us this weekend. We always have a fun time together; we know we need to treasure these times because these girls are getting older!
We went out for supper and then walked around outside when we got home. They may be getting older, but they still like the swing.
We took a walk down the road to say hi to the horses.
They were enjoying their supper, but did come over to greet us.
We usually do our craft on Saturday, but the one I had planned was a 2 step process, so we started Friday evening. We were making some small dishes from air drying clay. We molded it to soften it and then rolled it out. Then we cut it into a circle, pressed lace into it to make a pattern. Ruby made on all over pattern, I did 1 stripe and Alaina did 2 stripes. Then we left it to dry overnight.
Alaina has discovered she likes chess, so she and Bob played a game on the phone.
After the dishes dried overnight we painted the edges. This is Alaina's.
Here's Ruby's dish. She made her edges ruffly and it had lots of texture.
With the leftover clay, we made pendants for necklaces.
Next, we had to do something to go in the bowls.
You know, we always have an abundance of acorns here. I've been collecting nice ones. I baked them in an oven to make sure we didn't get any surprise bugs from them, then we painted them with metallic paints - gold, silver, copper and metallic blue and green.
Here's the girls with their finished Fall decor! We all had fun with this.

Hi Mari! You do such fun and creative things with your granddaughters. This is a nice, artistic fall craft that they can treasure for many years. I love it! Have a great week. See you again soon!
Oh I love the painted acorns! What a fun art project!
Dear Mari, lovely art and beautiful photos. Pretty smiles, horses 🐎 and lots of fun.
Very cool project!!!
I think I would love to be adopted. How fun. The girls are beautiful .
What a fun project. That is cool how you collect the acorns and put them in the oven. The girls look so happy!
The dishes and pendants are wonderful! Phil was a chess teacher at the local school, he has many trophies from chess matches. It is all Greek to me! The girls just get prettier and more grown up each time I see them.
It looks so much fun! Your granddaughters are so lucky to have you as their grandparents!
OMG, you made those?! That's amazing. I miss spending time with my grandma.
What a fun project and I LOVE the painted acorns. They're beautiful.
OMG Mari you always impress me with the crafts you come up with for the girls. This one is just as wonderful. I love how they painted their bowls and the acorns are the cats meow. Another great idea would be to turn those pendants into a Christmas tree ornament. Maybe I need to steal your idea and do this for a small tree. Janice
Good morning Mari....this is wonderful that you are spending time teaching them how to be creative and all of the projects are so neat.. Each photo shows such love and FUN when they visit y'all. Precious..
I love all of them, lean towards the most texture because I am a texture person. fun and the finished product is amazing to me.. love those painted acorns.. they would be nice on my little Christmas tree that has small pine cones on it
Such a fun time!
You know I had to save that last picture of the girlies for my album. Also there may be something in my eye. Anyway WOW those metallic acorns got me like, WHY DON'T I HAVE ANY OF THOSE??? Honestly you could sell those in a shop. The bowls are wonderful but I freely admit that Ruby's is my favorite. Y'all amaze me, over and over again. xoxo
This is a nice project and I love the painted acorns!
Oh my goodness ... I love those acorns. The metallic paints are the perfect touch.
I love how you do things together with your Grands. They are such precious memory makers. All the adventures should be printed in a book so the kids can remember all the things you do together. It would be a treasure keeper.
Sue
YOU are such a fun grandma!!!
A fun time and lovely photographs, I especially liked the last one of the girls with their finished Autumn/Fall decor.
All the best Jan
You always have such fun things for the girls to do. What great grandparents you two are.
You are creating some amazing memories with your girls, Mari. I remember time spent with my grandmother and aunts and I have great memories now and learned a lot, too.
I don't know how I missed this, but it looks like a fun time with the girls . Those bowls are stunning and I really like what you did with the acorns.
What a fun craft project!! I love the acorns, too. They look fabulous in the bowls! The girls are lovely young ladies! xo
Another perfect and fun time with Grandpa and Grandma! You folks are such treasures to those Girls and vice versa I know. :) Love the bowls and acorns!! So pretty 💗
The bowls with the acorns look so pretty.
These girls are so fun! And what a beautiful Fall project!
Ohhhhh, I wanna copy you and the acorns. That's brilliant. Over the weekend I grabbed a few from our walk, only the tops. I put one of the tops like a hat on a mini Minion. Really fun. Silly kinda fun. Anyway, LOVE this idea. If I can find some that are whole, next time I go, I'll do this. I LOOOVe this idea. I'm also on the hunt to photograph an acorn weevil. She likes green acorns so I might be too late.
