Yesterday I told you about touring Greenfield Village and all the historic place Henry Ford saved and moved. He also started a museum that's attached to the Village. It has some amazing things in it; the Wright Brothers first plane, the chair Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was shot, JFK's limousine, George Washingtons camp bed...
We've seen all these thing in the past and didn't go into the museum this time because it really takes a whole day to go through it all.
However, they also have a huge IMAX, 3D movie theatre that we thought the girls would enjoy.
We've got popcorn and are ready for the show! Ruby even has her 3D glasses on.
The movie we watched was called 'Wings over Wetlands'. It showed how birds migrate thousands of miles and come back to their own area. It had lots of beautiful and fun shots of turtles, ducks, Sand Hill Cranes, racoons and other wildlife. The girls thought the 3D effect was great.
When it got done, it was time to head home.
However, it wasn't a smooth ride home. We were caught up in construction 3 times in what was supposed to be a 3 hour drive.
Then we drove Alaina and Ruby home. They were happy to see their parents again.
Here we are turning onto our road and it's raining! Our area has had 1 inch of rain since June 1, so we were thankful to see this! We ended up getting 1/2 inch of rain that day.
It was a special time away, with lots of good memories made with Alaina and Ruby!

Well it all sounds so nice. It’s good you were able to do this with them. You and your husband are such good grandparents!
I can’t handle that kind of traffic since living here. We don’t have that here and I’m spoiled now. But when we head into the major cities it’s terrible and wastes so much time. At least road construction here they do in the middle of the night so I never see it or have to drive through it.
You make the best memories with your girls!
I can get so frustrated in traffic myself. When you get stuck - your just stuck.
I love that beautiful green entrance way - on your way home. Pretty.
What a wonderful getaway! That road construction is everywhere!
Wonderful experiences and memories for these beautiful grandchildren. I imagine it would be amazing to see the birds in 3D (even if this technology has not been perfected)!!
I hope you always have such a great time!
You really know how to have fun with the girls! A wonderful trip before school starts. Yikes, those traffic jams!! Just glad no one had to go to the bathroom!
History, nature, a bit of movie magic, and even a blessing of rain to end it all
It is often very long when we go to Paris many traffic jams and road works it is a waste of time. I like 3D movies so interesting I am sure the girls enjoyed the getaway!
What a great trip, even the traffic, smiles. Wishing you a beautiful day.
UGH on the traffic stops. I had to stop in the middle of the marsh yesterday on my way home. Had no idea why because there was no emergency vehicles or construction. I thought maybe it was someone just wanted to stop and take a pic which you cannot do. I also noticed our state animal (orange and white barrels) are out along the way I drive to work. UGH more construction. AM so glad you had a wonderful time at the Village. I wish we lived closer to it as I would be there every week if I did...or even would want to be a re-enactor. Janice
adorable faces as you all were stuck in traffic. This is the bad thing about traveling...not knowing where the trouble spots are. We have one on our drive to Dallas and I have recently found a different route to take. Everything about this trip looks so fun, interesting and full of great memories being made.
Oh how fun, with your sweet grandgirls, Mari! I'm so happy you had such a grand time. Love, Andrea xoxo
Such a wonderful few days you had with the girls, Mari. The museum that you had been to before, sounds like it would be a wonderful way to spend a day. The movie you saw sounds really interesting too...especially with popcorn! :)
Those construction delays can be so long sometimes. We've had our share of turning off the engine and sitting this summer.
It was so special that the girls could stop to see Cassie and give her something that they'd made for her.
Thankful to hear that you are getting some rain!
Making memories is what its all about. Love the picture of the girls being stuck in traffic for so long..seems construction is going on everywhere except for the California potholes..that's as political as I'm going to get.
Glad you got a bit of rain to give everything a drink.
Sue
That was quite a trip with many memories to enjoy.
At least the traffic jams were because of construction and not accidents!
