Valentines Day and the weekend

I hope you all had a nice Valentines Day and a good weekend.
Since we were having Alaina and Ruby overnight on Friday, we went out for a Valentines Breakfast which was a nice treat.

Bob brought me these beautiful roses.

We picked Alaina and Ruby up after school and then went out for supper.  We went to Culvers - their favorite place!

When we got home, they said they had a Valentine present for us. They made these tiny envelopes, and each one has a message in it.

We can open one every morning for a while.  Here's our first message.  We'll so enjoy this!

We decided to make a valentines treat, so we made Hershey Kiss cookies, rolled in red sugar.  Here's my helpers opening the kisses, and maybe eating a few!

Don't they look festive?

After cookie making we watched a movie.  We watched The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - a classic by CS Lewis.  We all loved it but in the middle of watching we had to stop for a few minutes for this:

Ruby had a tooth that was loose and she was totally focused on it. Grandma gave a tiny tug and it was out!  Then we went back to the movie.

After breakfast on Saturday, they got out Mario Kart Wii which is always a favorite.

Then they went downstairs and helped Bob a little bit with this hard puzzle.  It's all black, white and gray.  When finished it's showing the golden spike - finishing the intercontinental railway. Bob said he was telling them how hard this puzzle was, and they started picking up pieces and putting them in without much difficulty...  Oh well!  My friend Karen, from Life is Good is always working on puzzles, so seeing them do this, made me think of her.

I had been making soup, and when I came down, they were playing in the playhouse Bob made for our kids when they were young.  Alaina and Ruby don't play in it much anymore, but Cassie loves it!

Then it was time for our craft.  We made macrame bracelets.

Here's Ruby helping Alaina.

and Bob helping Ruby.

Some finished bracelets!  They did really good once they figured out the macrame knots.

They were happy with their projects!

We had lunch and then played Wahoo which they love.  Last time I posted a picture of this, lots of people asked about it.  I think it's an old fashioned version of Aggravation.  Bob's family used this board when he was young.

Then it was time to go home.  They took home the tooth that came out, cookies and bracelets! It was another fun sleepover!

You always have such fun times with your grand girlies! You are making wonderful memories. Those little daily Valentines notes from them are so cute and heart-felt. I think everyone in blogland is doing puzzles right now. It's a good winter activity. Bob's puzzle does look hard. Tell him that the Golden Spike was driven about 40 miles north was where I live and it is now a national historic park, but no, I haven't been there. Funny how we take things near us for granted. I need to go see it. I hope you have a great week. Stay safe and warm and remember that spring will eventually get here. :-)

Wow those red roses are beautiful. The girls are so creative to come up with such a sweet gift of those tiny envelopes. The cookies look delish. Anything either chocolate catches my interest. Oh and the tooth! Funny. What a cute playhouse Bob made for your kids. I had boys but as a Daycare provider I would have loved to have that. You do keep the girls busy with so many fun projects.

LOVE the playhouse. really I do, about the puzzle, I think young brains work better, each year older we lose a few cells, I might have lost more than a few. ha ha the best thing of all are your daily messages. enjoy

What fun and colorful bracelets. You always have the best crafts for your grands....makes me wish you were my gramma. :-) Cookies did look festive and I bet they were good too! I had a puzzle once from the 1940's which was all yellow and black on the box, but the actually puzzle was in color. This one Bob is doing looks much harder. Janice

It warms my heart to read about your time spent with your grandchildren. You and Bob provide such a nice variety of activity, learning experiences and, most of all, love. Your roses are beautiful and the girls gift to you is so sweet and thoughtful. What fun it will be to open them. As someone who always wanted a playhouse as a child, I had to enlarge that photo. Now I'm curious to see the inside :). How cute!!! The puzzle does look challenging. Interesting that the girls didn't seem to find it as challenging :).

Your roses are beautiful. I like it that you and Bob went out for breakfast for Valentine's Day. We often go either for breakfast or lunch to celebrate a special day anymore.

The girls did a great job with their bracelets and the cookies are so nice.

You have an ideal place for doing puzzles.

The roses were just beautiful - how sweet.
I love how you got her tooth out and just went back to the movie.
We are working on a puzzle right now too - but not black and white - that would be so hard.
Making cookies and jewelry with grandma and grandpa - you are the best.
