A day in my life - July!

Another month has flown by!  And here we are in July...  Here's a rundown of how I spent July 1.

Here I'm arriving at work.  We still have to sign in, check our tmp, sanitize our hands and put on a mask before we go leave this entry.

Here's the door to my office with a little July 4th bling.

Here's the inside of my office.  The little desk is mine, the doctors use the big desk.  They can spread charts out there, and they do!

After I start, I always print out notes and orders from the previous day to review.  Then I go out on the units to check on the nurses.  Here's a few decorations I saw as I walked.

This is the dining room/activity room on our skilled rehab unit. It was empty yet, as breakfast is served at 8:30 so most everyone was in their rooms.

One of the windows is used as an art gallery for our residents.  Here's some of their firework art.

Thursday is what I call Doctor day.  Our main doctor comes in and sees quite a few people.  He usually comes around noon and stays till after 4.  On this day, he came early because we have been very busy with admissions.  Our other dr had done 3 admissions on Monday and by Friday, there were 5 more to do, along with the other routine visits which need to be kept up with.
I gather the charts and get info on each person written out.  I gather current vitals, weight, labs, tell him how their cognition is, how they transfer, walk, turn..., if they are having pain, behaviors, medicatl issues...
Here are the charts of the routine visits for that day.  The admission charts got piled on his desk.

The doctor arrived at 9 that day.  Usually I have to go to a management meeting at 9:30, but was excused to be stay with the Dr.
As he started reviewing charts, I worked on these nurse evaluations, that are all done online.
He usually looks at a few charts and familiarizes himself with the patient, then we go to their room to see them.  We return to the office, he writes a note and writes orders.  I then enter the orders and write a nurses note saying the resident was seen and if there were any changes.
Then we do it all again!
Because he was there so early, he was done shortly after 3 instead of 4.
When he leaves, I scan all the notes into the computer, put all the charts away and then call family members to update them on the visit.
Usually on Thursday I work until about 6, but on this day I was out at 5.

Bob works late on Thursday evening, and I stopped at his work on the way home to say hi and pick up a few things I needed for a craft project I had planned with my girlies.

It was a beautiful day!  After about a week of rain, the sky was blue and the sun was shining!
I took the back roads home.  Check out this corn - it's really growing!

This looks like a nice little stream, but there isn't usually water here.  The Grand River is on the other side of these trees and because of all the rain we've been getting, the river is flooding.

Here I am on my road.  While I was gone, they started doing some work on our road, adding a layer of asphalt and gravel.

I was happy to get to our house and see work being done on the pillars on our porch.  There will soon be cut stone wrapping the bottom of these pillars!

I checked out the porch and the flowers.  This is Spirea and it's very bright and happy this year!

I sat down and ate supper.

I knew I was going to have a busy Friday and I  had bananas that needed to be used, so I made some banana bread.  As I was finishing it around 8:30, Bob came home from work.
We had a nice relaxing rest of the evening.
Welcome July!

Hi Mari. I love these "day in the life" posts. You work long days! Sound like you are getting plenty of rain there since the river is flooded. I love all the progress on your new porch. That will be great. That banana bread looks awful good. I made banana bread last week too! Hope your week is going well. See you again soon.

I'm also one that enjoys reading about your work/work load. You do keep busy & I think you pretty well run the facility yourself!!

Love banana bread & your new porch will be grand!!!

I always love seeing your updates. I can't wait to see the finished porch, smiles.

P.S. Work is no longer taking temps and masks are "mandated for non vaccinated" employees (honor system), few are heeding that. Folks just have had enough, after over a year, folks are just done with it. Like a fellow employee said, you try working / lifting (we work in the warehouse) items all day in a mask, it don't work. Especially when its 100*.

I have an even greater appreciation for the work load that you carry after being in the hospital for twelve days last month. God bless you! Your porch is going to be spectacular. I love the Spirea color too.

Y'all live in a pretty place. I enjoy reading about your daily doin's. Ours have been a bit boring of late because of the impending Tropical Storm Elsa heading our way. We're hunkerin' down and waiting for whatever happens. I'm hoping we get some of that. Need the rain badly. God is good and will send what we need, I'm sure.
Blessings. xx

I am glad that your patients have you as an advocate, Mari. How long do you think you will continue to work there? I have two nursing friends who are still working at age 66. One is in management like you are and the other works from home for an insurance company. I can't wait to see your pretty porch completed. It is going to be beautiful

I think to do your job you need a lot of patience and the ability to be very detailed. My favorite picture is on your road home and can't wait to see the rock on your porch.
