A Day in my Life

October is here!  As I usually do, I'm sharing what my day looked like on the first day of the month.

I was up a little after 6 and on the road for work around 7.  The days are definately getting shorter and soon it will be completely dark when I go in.

Dark skies, with cool clouds on the way in to work.

This is a new sign I got for my door.   I needed to change it out for the season!

It was a Thursday which is the day our regular Dr does visits.  He has to see new patients and admit them, see people on the rehab/skilled side every 30 days and see our long term patients every 30-60 days.  I keep track of everyone and when they were last seen.
The Dr still can't come into the building so I have to gather a bunch of information, notes from previous visits...  and fax it to him.  That's the first thing I do when I arrive on Thursdays to give him plenty of time to review it.

We also have a meeting with all the managers every morning to review any issues, concerns with patients, planned admissions and discharges... This lasts about 45 minutes.

One of my jobs is keeping track of all the vaccinations for our residents.  When they arrive, I have to find out when they've last had flu and pneumonia vaccines.   This is a state website I check in for all new admits.  Most vaccinations are listed here.   Right now I'm also getting ready to giving flu shots to all the staff and residents.  I've been sending and recieving consents.  Once I give them, I go back to this site and enter everyone.

Here's the back half of my office.  Since the doctors can't come in, our Marketing person, Tammy has been sharing my room.  It's nice to have the company!

Apparantly Thursday was National Donut Day.  One of our family members dropped off a bunch of donuts to thank us for the care.

I'm the Infection Control Nurse at our place, so another thing I worked on while waiting for the Dr to call was the reports I have to do at the end of each month.  I have to list each infection; if they got it before admitting or at our facility, what type of bug, the dates, the treatment, any isolation...
I didn't get it all finished, but got a good start on things.

Much of the afternoon was spent on my phone, on Skype.  The Dr calls to tell me he's ready, I go out on the floor and Skype him.  We see a few people, he does his documentation, I do mine, he calls me and we do it again.  We saw 12 people that afternoon.
After we finish, I have to make sure new orders are in, notify the nurses who are working, put things away and then I can leave.

I left at 5:45.

During the day we had downpours of rain, sunshine and more rain!   There was sunshine and clouds on my way home.

Pretty scene - blues skies and dark clouds!

I stopped to pick up sonething for supper, because Bob was working  and then went home.
When I got home I started a load of laundry and then had supper.

Here's my supper - a roasted chicken salad from Arbys.  It was good!

Bob got home at 7:30.
We watched The Royal.  Have you seen it?  It's on Amazon Prime - a show about a hospital set in the 60's.  I love the old music, the old cars, seeing the nurses in uniform and the way things were run at that time.  If you watched Call the Midwife and liked it, you will like this show.

I never just watch tv, I like to be doing something else at the same time.  On this night I was working on some online scrapbooks.  I do one every year for Alaina and Ruby with all the pictures I take of them, and also any that I get from Laura and Aaron.

Here's a screenshot from my computer with the page I was working on.  I use Mixbook and I love all the options you have for making a photo book with them.  I work on these through the year and then look for coupons or deals when it's time to order.  It's so fun!

Around 11, it was time for bed.
Another good day!

So is this a series? I can't find it anywhere on Prime shows. Do you know what category it is under?

Love visiting your job site, Mari. I like knowing what nursing is like these days. Thanks for the recommendation for The Royal. Marvin has Amazon prime so I will be sure and check that one out.

I am always amazed at all the responsibilities you have and how much you accomplish in just one day. I would hate having to drive in the dark before the sun comes up but you have some long winters so guess that happens a lot for you. The salad looked yummy and love the scrapbooks:)

You probably can't say, but if you can...how are things there in regards to the virus?

You had a very busy day! I remember driving to work in the dark... I hated it and I hated driving home in the dark too! I usually make sports scrapbooks for my three oldest grandsons but this year only one has played a sport due to COVID so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'll definitely make him a book as his coaches were his dad and grampa and it was a special (although shortened!) season for him. Hope you have a great week!

I am late getting to blogs but always enjoy your first of the month posts. What long days to put in, Mari. Your staff and the patients are so blessed to have you there! I love that you do annual books for the girls! What lovely keepsakes they will make. I want to check out that site. I've done a few for special occasions. It's a great way to save memories.

VERY cool day! I love the online scrapbook. I should do something like that for Dagny but I don't work so I probably don't have time. Haaaahahaha xoxo
