Riverboat ride

You may remember that in June Bob had a big birthday and turned 60.  At that time we met Andy in Ohio and visited the Air Force Museum.  We planned an outing with our girls and families, but it's taken a while to find a date that worked for all of us.  Sunday we finally had our outing!
We all met after church to take a picnic ride on the Grand Lady Riverboat.

Here she is - such a pretty boat!   We boarded at 12:30 for a 2 hour ride down the Grand River.

Here's our group, waiting to leave.  We were on the top level of the boat.  Laura and Aaron were there with Alaina and Ruby, and Heather and Andrew were there too.

It was a beautiful day, sun shining with an occasional breeze which was very appreciated later in the afternoon.

Alaina was a great turtle spotter.  It seemed that nearly every log poking up out of the water had turtles on, enjoying the sunshine.

Aaron took the girls to explore the boat after we ate our lunch.

The captain invited them into the wheelhouse for a few minutes, and told them to come back on the return part of the trip to have a chance to steer the boat.

The scenes along the river were so pretty!

Grandpa was enjoying his time with the girls.

Can you see the crane blending in with the riverside?

These geese were enjoying a paddle too!

We shared the river with several other boats and kayaks.

This crane flew over us and landed in a tree.  He looks kind of big to be up there!

Ruby got her chance at the wheel!

And so did Alaina.

It was a fun afternoon!

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon...family, good food and something that was so special. I loved the pictures of Bob...always smiling and enjoying his time with his family. And those girls...well, Mari, they are just so cute and sweet. I love the way their hair was done. Someone has talent. :)

Looks like so much fun! I've always wanted to ride on a real riverboat. None in my neck of the woods...

Is this the one that used to be tied up in Grandville area? Where is it now? Did you bring your own food? So many questions!

I bet you all had a wonderful time. How cool to see turtles like that. I can't believe how quickly Ruby is growing up, she seems to be catching up to her older sister!

It has been a long time since I was on a river boat on the Ohio River. I loved it so much and would like to do it again. Alan has been on the Mississippi River when he was in New Orleans on business. Ruby and Alaina can steer our boats any day. They look like they are having the best time.
