It's the first of the month; time to share my day with you!
I work every Monday, so I was on the road at 6:35. When I got to work, the night nurse was busy filling out paperwork because someone had fallen about 30 minutes earlier. Falls are a big deal, even if the person is not injured. If the fall is not witnessed, we have to do vitals and neuro checks every 15 minutes for an hour, every 30 minutes for 2 hours, every hour for 4 hours, then every 8 hours for 3 days. This ensures that any head injury would be noticed. There are also lots of forms to be filled out. Thankfully this fall didn't cause any injury except a small laceration.
It was a misty morning. This is the view from one side of the nursing home.
Since I can't show pictures of the residents at work, I thought I would show some things I use. One of the things I do, that takes the most time in my work day is passing medications. We pass meds each morning from about 7:30 to 10am, then have another med pass around noon that takes about 45 minutes. This is the med book for one hall.
This is one drawer in our med cart. Each medication comes on a blister pack card that usually has 30 pills in it. We punch the pills out into a med cup.
Another thing that was happening today was our activity department decorating for Valentines Day. This is the front office.
This is the nurses station.
It was a busy day, and we had an admission late in the afternoon. The person admitted had an unusual name. Her name itself isn't so unusual, but she married someone who has the same last name as her first name. She has now lived for about 50 years with the same first and last name!
Because of the admission, I got out late, leaving close to 4pm.
It was a pretty afternoon, the temperature was 37 and the sun was trying to shine!
When I got home, I made some treats for Tuesday. It's a MOPS day and my group is providing brunch. I made this orange bread...
and some coffee slush.
I also made this Two Timin' Pasta Bake for supper.
After supper we had a church meeting.
We've been meeting in a school and we got to review plans and drawings for a building which we're hoping to start on this summer!
It was a busy day, but a good one!

A busy day for you to be sure. I salute you - you have a hard but rewarding job. I think I have told you that my brother-in-law does what you do, plus he has been taking care of my mother-in-law at home. It has about done him in. I hope the rest of your week goes well. Would love the recipe for yummy bread and pasta dish!
That orange bread sounds good!
I love your pictures. How exciting to be reviewing plans for a church building. John takes 26 scripts per day (at various times) and I can't imagine doing what you do - it would be overwhelming. God bless you. I once worked for a man whose wife was named Dory Doro. I always thought that was a funny name. Thanks for the recipes. Wishing you a nice day.
Hello dear Marie and a blessed February to you! It is always fun to see a day in the life of a fellow blogger... {{Smiles}}
My goodness...such a lot of checks and paperwork for the residents who fall...yours is a very special job! Hmmm...I can almost smell that freshly baked orange bread! Hope the MOPS meeting goes well! Much love!
Busy day indeed. Hope by the 3rd day the resident who fell will have a clear chart and no hidden injuries.
Wow...work AND baking. You really utilize your hours in your day to be sure. That afternoon sky is gorgeous.
Oh my goodness your bread, the slush and that pizza dish look delicious! I really enjoy hearing about your day on the first of each month, Mari. Thanks for taking us along! Happy February!
I always enjoy these posts. You had a busy day indeed! That orange bread looks delicious. How exciting for your church!
So fun to get peeks into your day! When you share your work it brings back such memories to me (mostly fond - Lol) ;) I think it's so cool that you continue to help with the Mops group - love that!! All of your food looks so yummy too.
Blessings on the rest of your week and hopefully it will be a fast Feb so we can get into Springtime. xoxo
Your bread and the pasta bake looks so good. It's fun to see what goes on in the lives of other bloggers. Thanks for sharing.
You are a busy lady, I have been retire so long I for get
How busy life is working with people.
It was nice taking a tour of where you work. Brought back so many memories. I loved nursing and still do, but the time comes to let the younger handle it...especially all those meds. You get through with one round and it is time for the next. That orange bread/cake looks so good, as do the other two pictures of slush and pizza. You have so many good dishes to share.
Could you post the recipe for the orange bread?
A busy day. Glad that the resident who had the fall is OK. xx
I know I tell you this once a month, but I love your first-day posts. You get so much done in the space of a day. I've just got to make that coffee slush. Maybe for some party or other when it gets hot again outside. xoxo
Your bread sounds and looks delicious.
I remember the days before med blister packs.. back when the meds had to be counted out and put in little paper cups :)
Yay blister packs!
How fun to have a client that has kept the same last name for all these years.. even though she technically took on her husbands last name :)
Have a wonderful week.

What a busy day from start to finish! Years ago we knew someone by the name of Ruth who married a man with the last name Ruth. So she went by Ruth Ruth!
I need to check out that coffee slush. Sounds delicious.
The bread and pasta look delicious! Glad the person who fell was not hurt. It was interesting to read about your day...and very neat the lady had the same first and last name!
You always impress with me with how much you pack into a day. How weird to have the same first and last night, that must be very unusual!
Wow - that was a busy day! And that orange bread looks delicious. And the coffee slush too!
ok, i think i need a nap after reading what you did in a day ... i'd probably do that in a month! LOL .. retirement does that to a person! blessings on ya!
