Last week was National Nursing Home Week. Every year during this week, we do lots of fun things at the Nursing home I work at. This year was called Fiesta week with many activities pulled from that theme. There was a day when everyone was supposed to dress in fiesta style. Another day the residents made a pinata and the next day they all knocked it till it broke. They also had virgin Sangria's one afternoon.
Another thing that happened was an old car show. This is always enjoyed by all, and many of the resident remember driving some of these old cars.
This one was my favorite.
Another thing that happens during this week is staff dressing up.
These are several of our department heads dressed up for 'Dress in the decade you were born day'
From the left - Laundry, MDS coordinator, Director of Nursing, Admission Coordinator, Activity Director, Social Worker. Don't they look great?
It was a fun week. It's nice for the residents to have some special fun!

Hi Mari, What a lot of fun this must have been for everyone. Those old cars are great!
I know the residents had fun, and employees had fun planning it all.
That looks like a lot of fun! I love that last car...so cool! I love how you all make working there and living there as fun as possible!
I think that activity is a very special time for the residents to remember their younger years. It is nice when older people smile as they remember the past.
It looks as though staff and residents alike had a good week!! What a great way to add some cheer to life!! xx
Oh Mari! What a lovely way to bless the residents of the nursing home!
I love old cars, so I enjoyed your pictures very much...I have a page on Pinterest devoted to old cars...sigh...I can imagine how wonderful it must have been to drive around in them!
Have a blessed weekend and much love!

Look at those bell bottoms that one girl is wearing, lol. Thanks Mari for sharing. Have a lovely Friday. Blessings
So much fun! I planned lots of activities for Nursing Home Week when I was an Activity Director. It's nice to see staff participating too. Thanks for posting!
Mari,
Great pictures, and what a lot of fun. My husband would have loved seeing all the old cars. Do guys EVER get over their "first love" which was probably their "first car? Don't think so. :)
FUN FUN FUN
LOVE this. How wonderful for all of you to enjoy each year. :)
xoxo
Ah such fun Mari!! I miss those days with all the fun activities that were thought up. My favorite memories, besides the residents, of working in long term care was the family feel among the staff I worked with. Such great people. Looks like you've got a great bunch too. ;)
PS: I would have had to dress in the 70's tie dye. Lol xoxo Happy weekend!!
What fun! I bet the staff enjoys it as much as your residents. No pictures of you dressed up?
love the "dress from the decade you were born" idea!!
If I have to go hope it's that fun of a place. With nice people like you.
Both my husbands mom and my own mom (88 and 91) are in a nursing home. I thank God for the wonderful care they get there. looks like you provided a wonderful day as well!
What a fun week! I'm sure the residents were reminded of times past just looking at those old cars!
I think it is great that you help those people still enjoy life. Remembering the past with the car show is wonderful. The workers look so cute!
Those cars are great. xoxo
