I'm back...

I'm back after a week away. Bob and I had a nice week off from work and we also took a little trip to Amish country in Indiana that I'm going to share with you.  (warning - lots of pictures)

On Tuesday we went to Shipsewana and spent a good portion of the day at the flea market.  This is known as the largest flea market in the midwest.  It was crowded as usual, but the weather was nice and it was a good day for walking through the booths.

One of the more unusual things at the flea market was this booth that sold ice cream.  It was being churned by this engine.  We tried it out and it was delicious!

Here's a few of the bargains we found.  I've been looking for an old window and an old typewriter and we found both.  I was also happy to find that old fan!  On the right bottom are some telephone insulators that I thought would make a nice grouping.

We then went to our hotel.  The Essenhaus is known all over the area for it's Amish food and people come from all over just to eat there.  The hotel is also wonderful.  Along with the restaurant, there are gift shops, miniature golfing, carriage rides and just a charming, homey atmosphere.  This is one of the seating areas in it, that was near to our room.

One of the barns that's been renovated into a gift shop.

This little water wheel was just outside our window.

Here's the carriage, making it's rounds on the hotel grounds.

We took a walk after supper and made a stop at the covered bridge.

The stream by the covered bridge.

Bob was patiently waiting for me to finish taking pictures.

 Another bridge on the property.

I always enjoy seeing the Amish buggies.
Tomorrow I'll share our trip to Elkhart.

This looks like a fantastic get-away. I always hoped to make Indiana Amish country when we lived close to the Indiana border but we never made it. The hotel looks delightful and the photos are wonderful. So great you and Bob could get away. Mike and I so enjoyed our time away in NC and TN this past August! :>)

How nice, Mari. It looks like a very relaxing getaway for you and Bob. I enjoyed visiting Amish country in PA when I lived in the east; their food and crafts are really terrific.

I would LOVE the flea market and the hotel!! I want to go, now! Of course, that probably won't happen, but I can sure put in on my list of things I'd like to do. How lovely those grounds are! It is so much fun when you find things you have been looking for!! Now you need to show us what you do with them! Have a great week, Mari.

My old stomping grounds! We lived in NW Indiana for 17 years and I bet you didn't know I was born in Kokomo. At any rate the finds you found? I would have bought exactly the same things. The typewriter is SHEER GENIUS. You're a good picker, Maribeth. xoxo

This looks like a wonderful place! The hotel, the grounds, I would love to go to a place like that. Great finds at the flea market, too! I wish I had a place like this close by. It might be worth a road trip, but I would have to take a really big trailer:)

I loved looking at all the pictures but I especially liked the horse and carriage picture and the wagon full of flowers. The pics were all lovely. I think that this area is several hours northwest of me. I will look it up! Glad you had a marvelous time!

Staying at the Essenhaus, you were within walking distance of our daughter's place :) We really like that area, especially the new bike/walking path that goes from Goshen to Shipshewana. We've never gone the whole way, but we've walked sections around Middlebury. And you can imagine how much I enjoy all the quilt shops :) So glad you had a good break down there!

Oh yeah! You and I would have a blast pickin. I see that right now! We love the same things. Girrrrl, I have been looking everywhere for a vintage typewriter to go on my desk in the red and gray room. It's on hold right now. Funds not available:) You know I'm crazy about jars and windows and I haven't been able to find a window with all the panes in it. I'm glad you're back.
