A few weeks ago we celebrated nursing home week. At our place that meant special activities every day and lots of fun! One of the special things that was done was a balloon launch. We got lots of the residents out on the patio and handed out balloons. We had 75 balloons and there were tags attached to quite a few that said were they came from and what was happening. It also had our phone number so people could call and tell us where they found them.
Letting go...
Going...
going...
and nearly gone!
It was fun to watch them float off. In the next few days we got a few phone calls from people who found them. We are between Holland and Grand Rapids in Michigan. The balloons went to Michigan, Ohio and Indiana - quite a long way for a floating balloon!

This brought back memories of reading the book by Carolyn Haywood, "Away Went the Balloons" to my daughters. At the end, we also launched their balloons. Ev'Yan was so thrilled to hear back from her tag finder who, I believe lived in another state altogether.
You all have wonderful ideas. I wish I could've seen the smiled on their faces as they watched the balloons soar.
FUN! I love balloon launches! Love the tag idea! Will put that in my bonnet for a future balloon launch idea. :O)
My father would have gotten such a kick out of that as would his friends at the retirement center. This is a relatively easy and inexpensive (I guess depending on the cost of helium) activity with so much joy produced from it. Super idea. Fun photos too. :>)
I didn't know the residents had so much fun; I think I'll sign up. lol

What a fun event. I bet the residents loved it too. I saw a balloon release at the end of a burial one day and it touched my heart...I bet the day your residents released theirs I would feel the same way.
Oh, how fun...and what a gorgeous day to launch your balloons! Your photos look great with that blue sky!
I agree with everyone! What a fun thing to do with your residents! So nice that a few folks called with the location of the landed balloons!
Bless you for what you do, Mari. It takes a very special person to work with the elderly and infirm on a daily basis.
What a great idea, love the photos of them slowly disappearing. Reminds me of the film Up.
What a great activity! I wonder when the last call will come that someone got a baloon!
very cool that you've already gotten calls! :)
I LOVE it!! Long ago we used to launch balloons at the school where I taught, but then someone decided it wasn't enviromentally safe or something like that. )-:
How fun! I'm sure the residents enjoyed the festivities. And that's cool that you heard from some of those who found the balloons.
Awww, that's really neat. Such a great idea.
