44 years!

Last week Thursday was our anniversary.  I'm blessed to have a wonderful husband and we've now been married for 44 years. We decided that we would have a fun day out to celebrate.

We started at our neighborhood Sprinkles which is a donut shop.  A friend is the manager and she had told us to stop by for their grand opening.  Bob won a t-shirt and a free donut.

From there we drove to Fallasburg, which is about 45 minutes from our house.

We had a picnic lunch and ate it near the Flat River.

We took a little walk to get closer to the river.

There were lots of geese enjoying the area too.

A little selfie!

Next we moved on to the Historic Fallasburg Covered Bridge.  It was built in 1871 and is on the National List of Historic places.  It is one of 2 covered bridges in Michigan that is open to vehicle traffic.

Isn't this a beautiful bridge?  And I thought I'd take a picture of that good looking guy too!   The sign says "$5 fine for riding or driving on this bridge faster than a walk."

We did drive through it, but also walked through and admired all the beautiful timbers.

The river from next to the bridge

There is also a historic village.  This was the home of one of the founders of the village, John Fallas.  It was built around 1840. He and his wife lived here until their deaths, in 1891 and 1896.

The old schoolhouse, which was built in 1867.

Next we drove to an adjacent town, about 10 minutes from the bridge. This is Lowell and you know you are in a farming community when this is in the town!

We walked through town and saw the Lowell Show Boat.

This was such a charming town.  It was full of beautiful old buildings.

We enjoyed walking down the main street and stopping at some shops.

One of them was this antique store, always fun to walk through!  I even made a few purchases.

I thought this old paperweight was pretty.

Look at this cute little pewter pitcher.  I thought of Janice from Prims by the Water when I saw this one, as she just purchased a little pewter plate.

One last shot of this charming town.

We avoided the highway and took the country roads home.  It took a little longer but was a pretty drive.

We went out for supper, Bob got meatloaf and I had a southwest salad.  A good meal after a lovely day!

Happy Anniversary!! That looks like a perfect way to celebrate each other and 44 wonderful years! You do find the most interesting and beautiful places to visit and enjoy! I love covered bridges!! My home county (Fairfield) in Ohio still has 15 covered bridges standing and usable. I had to look it up because I was afraid most of them were gone. Happy to see them being preserved across the land. They are a peek into our past. Have a blessed week ahead, Mari! Sending a hug!

Happy Happy 44! Wow, wow. And your photos. That bridge shot. That's what I'm looking for, stuff like that. Soooo good. Sooooo good.

Thank you regarding my new job. I agree with you. Going from weekends to not weekends, it's just wonderful. The days will be long at 8-5 BUT, that's okay. The weekends will be free!!!!

PS: You have an excellent eye for photography, food and hubbys! Congrats again on the 44 years together.

Happy Anniversary to you both. What a nice historic town you visited. It’s always fun to take a step back into time. That covered bridge is nice. We had one but the Camp fire but it was lost during the campfire. The community raised money to build a replica but it’s not the same.
We just watched on YouTuber Peter Santenello‘s videos on Michigan’s upper peninsula. Wow what an awesome place.

Happy, Happy Anniversary. I really loved your celebration, just doing and visiting places that you both enjoy.
Good food and extra special Company, what could be better. Love the covered bridge and your purchases at the antique shop. I love pitchers too and that would have probably found its way home to me too.

Happy Anniversary! It looks like you had a wonderful day, with lots of interesting places to see and things to do! I love days like that! And I thought it was funny that when you went out to eat, you had the salad and he had the meatloaf dinner. Isn't that just typical of how most men and women do? I know it is for us. That just tickled me. Have a wonderful week. Happy 44th Anniversary, and may God bless you with many more!

First off, happy belated anniversary. I did not even realize we had any covered bridges in our state not to mention we have two. I need to see these in person. Lowell is my kind of town. I had a co-worker who moved to this town years ago after she retired. Now I know why as it is so charming. Yes the pewter caught my eye. You also scored on that wonderful paperweight. They sure dont make things like they use to. Janice
