We had a fun time last week with Alaina and Ruby. We thought that now that they are older (almost 11 and 14) it would be fun to go somewhere with them, so we planned this little getaway.
I'm going to take a few days to tell you about it, because - I take lots of pictures, and I don't want to bore you with a super long post!
We left Monday morning, planning to pick them up shortly after 11.
So, we left a little later than planned, but soon had picked up the girls and were on our way.
Here we are, looking forward to a fun adventure!
We were driving to Dearborn, MI which is about 2 1/2 hours from our home. We stopped for lunch along the way and arrived at our hotel shortly before 3. We got settled in and checked the place out before going out to find supper.
The burger was delicious! Bob and I actually split it because each burger is 1/2 pound!
I had found these fun things to bring along for the girls. The Bertie Botts jelly beans have good and not so good flavors and you don't know until you taste them. They wanted us to try them too. Bob got a dirt flavor and I had soap!
The wax bottles were something I remembered getting as a kid. These were sour though - and this is the reaction the girls had to them!

Wow! Ford's Garage looks like a fabulous place to eat! I'm cracking up at the candy with mystery flavors! My son once roped me into playing this game with Jelly Belly Beans and some were TRULY awful! Haha! Can't wait to see what else y'all do!
Ford's looks so awesome!!! The atmosphere looks so fun. And they even have their name burnt into the buns! I remember those little candy bottles, never tried them as a kid. This is such a great trip to do with them before school starts again! Looking forward to the rest; how can it get any better than this though?
Looks like a great trip! You made some fun and special memories. Ford's Garage looks like a great restaurant. So glad you could have this fun time with your grands!
Despite the unexpected branch, it seems like the adventure with Alaina and Ruby was off to a cheerful and memorable beginning
I have a Ford car but no Ford restaurant here unfortunately! It looks like you had a fun beginning of outing. Nice to see the girls with grandpa.
I believe there is a Ford's in Gainesville-30 min. away, I guess we will have to go check it out, smiles. I can't believe how much the girls are growing up. Wishing you a beautiful week, smiles.
Oh, how fun! I love each of their expressions with the wax bottles. I remember those from when I was a kid, too, only they weren't sour. :) And the Ford's Garage looks like a super fun place to enjoy a meal. Carroll, especially, would love it!
I remember wax bottles, but not sour ones! We also liked candy buttons. I love that you are fun grandparents, those lucky girls! I can't wait to hear more!
Oh what a wonderful time you all had! That is so neat, to be able to take your granddaughters on a little adventure trip like that. I know they loved it. Those faces with the sour candy are priceless! Yeah, I remember those wax bottles, but they were always sweet. I wonder why they wanted to make them sour? Who likes sour stuff? LOL. The Ford place looks like so much fun. And the swimming pool is ever better! Happy Days! Can't wait to see the rest!
I remember the wax bottles but never had one. I was more into the wax lips and mustaches.
Fun times with the granddaughters!
This looks like the best trip ... ever !
What fun. I love restaurants that are themed and those hamburgers with the branding on them are wonderful.
What a special time with your granddaughters. Making memories is what its all about.
Ah yes wax bottles and flavored jelly beans. I have had some of those Jelly Belly ones that make the "flavor" linger on your tongue forever..(:0) Soap and dirt make me laugh.
I can't wait to learn what's next on your trip.
Sue
Love these pics! So fun - and what treasured time together. Now that the girls are older and you and Bob are retired - it's a match made in heaven. Looks like a really cool city and that restaurant is awesome! You're bringing me back to my childhood with those wax bottles. I didn't know you could get sour, but love their expressions!! Lol
How fun. Sour stuff makes me make a face like that too!! LOL Looking forward to your post tomorrow!!
The girls faces are the best...and of course, grandma was ready with her camera! I love it!!
A fun getaway, no doubt! I like the look of the restaurant and I remember those wax bottles :)
Looks like a fun filled first day. :)
A fun filled first day ... looking forward to reading more as the week progresses.
Aren't those gas pump door handles good!
All the best Jan
Will you be my Grandma? What a fun grandma you are!
And I absolutely do remember those wax bottles of colored sugar. We would even chew the wax...Yuck!
What a fun and great place to eat!!! I need to make a note of that!!!!
I have never been to Fords Garage but many time times to Greenfield Village for every holiday. This restaurant I must go to on our next outing to Greenfield. Looked amazing and we love burgers. Janice
This looks like so much fun!! We could never be bored with your pictures! Those French fries! I could have picked one right off the picture, they look so good!
I've never heard of Ford's Garage restaurants. Looks like an interesting place, and I'm wondering how they get their name imprinted on the burger buns.
Oh my word, Ruby's face in that last shot! And I totally need one of those headbands. LOVE that Ford's Garage place! SO clever! And ain't nobody touching my 1/2 lb. burger ... I will consume every last morsel with great enthusiasm! I think it's only right that Bon got the dirt flavored jellybean. Just saying, hahahaha! xoxo
I've never eaten at Ford's Garage. Looks interesting and the food looks delicious! What fun treats you had!
