Do you remember this post from a few weeks ago, where I showed you all the maple tree seeds that had come down in our yard? Here's what's happening to them now!
Bob is bemoaning the fact that all over the yard, in every flower bed we have, many little maple trees are coming up! It's time to take a little time and pull them. (At least they come out easily)
The seeds have also brought a new visitor to our yard. This little black squirrel has become a regular. He runs up under the tree, picks up one of the seeds, munches it and moves to the next one. When I am home I see him several times a day. At least we know his tummy is full!

Mari,
We have those maple keys in our yard as well and yes, they do turn into little trees. I am constantly pulling them out and if you miss one, it soon becomes quite difficult to remove. The squirrles love them. I'm afraid that many of these seeds are going to be trees by the time the renovations are done.
Take care and enjoy your evening.
Blessings,
Mary
That squirrel is so cute! I've never seen one so dark.
Hugs!

My Ali dog would be so happy if she could just chase that squirrel right back up the tree:)
And I was just considering planting a maple tree for shade. Hmmm.
That squirrel is adorable. I never saw such a dark one either. Is he a special Michigan variety??
I always feel like I'm murdering all these fantastic trees. I just collected some helicopters from the park to see if I can get any to grow in my yard :)
We have buckets full of those seeds too in our yard, in my flower beds, in my planters, etc. We have red squirrels by us though and they don't seem to like those seeds. They prefer to go through our bird feeder and pick out the black oiled sunflower seeds! Ugh!
God is such an awesome gardener! Everything he plants grows! Now if I had planted those seeds....
Cute Squirrel- God is so good to take care of all His creations
What a cute little visitor!
Rog shares Bob's feeling about all the whirly birds in all the flower beds. We just top dressed all our flower beds with cocoa bean hulls and hid all the seeds. Hopefully not too many will turn into trees that we have to pull. One fun thing we did with maple seeds was that the year each of your kids were born, we started a tree from seed. Now the boys are 20 and 16 and their maple trees are huge!
Jan
look at that fun black squirrel
We have black squirrels like that at our cottage, but I haven't seen any down state, at least not in my neck of the woods. I'm sure he feels like he's feasting on a Maple tree buffet!
yes the maple seeds have done their thing here too! all over the place for sure! i was pulling weeds out of our itty bitty flower garden and got a bag full - including maple trees ...
hope you have a restful & blessed weekend!
Somehow the bulk of them landed in our rain gutters...what a mess. Alfred cleaned them all out for Dave and we are set to go until next time. I heard they were really bad this year for a reason. What's the reason? I forgot, hehehe
We have those also. But we do not have many squirrels over here thank goodness, what a cute picture:)
Yes, we too have those stinkin little trees growing up everywhere. They are a pain because I don't want a forest growing in my yard!
That is the first black squirrel I have ever seen! Are you sure it is a squirrel or one of those Michigan Groundhogs? Just kidding! If he were in my yard, I wouldn't get anything done but to watch him.
I think you ought to send Jean some of your maple trees! Hee! Hee!
Our neighbor has one of those big maple trees and it puts out a lot of seed every year, but honestly, I never saw so many seeds as were on your tree this year. Good Grief!
I've never seen such a dark squirrel! He's so cute!
I saw your black squirrel picture and had to show my husband. He always tells me about the black squirrels he sees when he travels to the Detroit area, which is where we'll be relocating to soon (the military retirement thing). So I had him look at your pic and he asked if you lived in Michigan. And your profile says you do. How funny!
Have you named him? My kids name our frequently visiting wildlife. :)
