Lilacs

I have always loved lilacs. When I was young we had a large lilac bush outside the window by our dining room table. I remember my Mom opening the window in the spring and the wonderful smell drifting in through the window. Mom would often cut bouquets and send them along with us to my teachers when I was young. When we were first married, we had a row of lilacs along our driveway, so again I had plenty of lilacs in the spring. When we moved here - there were none. We planted a bush in the back but it has taken a long time to get to the point of having enough blooms to pick.
A few years ago, we redid the landscaping in the front of our house. We added a dwarf lilac and I love it. It stays compact but gives us lots of flowers every spring. It has the same scent as the regular bush.
Here it is - full of blooms!

Here's a closeup. Hummingbirds love them too.
They are another one of God's gifts to us!

Oh how pretty ! I love the close up shot that you took ! It's it funny how some smells can transport us to another time ?! I love that ! There are some smells so distinct that every time I smell them, I find myself enjoying very specific memories !

I love lilacs too! Yours are gorgeous. When I was young, we didn't have a lot of money for teachers' end-of-year gifts, so we used to bring in lilacs! I hope you had a great weekend.

Lilacs were my grandmother's and are one of my mother's favorite flowers....therefore, they are one of my favorites because they remind me of these two special ladies. I just love their scent!

I love the look of lilacs but their scent about kills me. I have a hard time breathing around them, isn't that sad?

I love lilacs! It's my favorite flower scent!! We have a big bush in the back yard - dark purple. I only wish they lasted all summer long! This spring has been cold enough to make them last longer though so that's a good thing!

Your Lilac Bush is very pretty! It provides a welcome fragrance to all your visitors who approach your front walk. So pretty!

I remember being sent to school with them too - their stems wrapped in paper towel and aluminum foil. I was always so proud to give them to my teacher! :)

this should be a scratch and snif computer screen. Hmmm, I wonder if those exist. Wouldn't that be cool?

This is the variety we have at the front porch. I almost thing it is more fragrant than the bigger sized bushes!

Hope you are having a wonderful day!☺

Now I have to have one...all those childhood memories of taking them to my teacher come flooding back.
I didn't know hummingbirds were attracted to them...that's a real extra special gift from God!

Our neighbors had one when I was a kid. I loved it. We would pick the flowers and suck on the end to get a taste of the sweetness. What a great memory.

I can almost smell that great scent from your pictures. I love them!

Lilacs don't do well down South - too hot, I guess. They are one of my very favorite things about the Midwest. The scent is truly amazing and a think I'll be "homesick" for every spring if/when we eventually move back home someday.
