Stepping back in time

I have to share the neat package I got recently.  My cousins daughter lives in Iowa.  Her husbands workplace was doing some deep cleaning and was going to throw this away, but she knows I like old things along with medical things, so this was right up my alley!  She knew someone that was headed for Michigan so she sent it along with them.
Here's what was in my package.

Here's the first part.  A very old box of band-aids, wrap and first air spray and ointment.

And this very old first aid kit.  The date on it shows it to be over 50 years old!

It's even stocked.  Do any of you remember Mercurochrome?  I remember having it put on scraped knees.  There was a bottle of it in here.  I've emptied out the bottles now, and will keep it stocked with the empty bottles.  I'd like to display it on a shelf in our bathroom.  I
I found it so interesting to look at and thought it was very nice of Christiana to send it my way.

Very fun! I had Mercurochrome on my knees several times as a child! Always at school....my mother used peroxide at home instead. :) The school nurse would 'write' a red star on your hand with it if you didn't cry while she cleaned up your cut. haha.

Mercurochrome! Yes! I definitely remember having a little bottle of that at home as well as a bottle of ipecac (sp?) syrup!

Yep, I remember...do they even make that anymore? (wondering out loud, lol)--those are cool items, Mari. Have a beautiful day.

I sure do remember my mom and Mercurochrome - it had a little glass dipper/applier in the bottle and she'd put it on scrapes. I had a bottle of it when I was first married, and Irene [our daughter DRANK some of it....I found her on the steps in the hallway, with it all over her blouse. I was frantic.

What a treasure. I was thinking you'd tell us you're gonna set it up on display at your nursing home...but LOVE the idea of shelving it in your own bathroom too.

What a great surprise and gift!! I LOVE that old first aid kit and of course (those of us of certain age) I remember mercurochrome!! Wonder why we can't buy it anymore? It helped heal many cuts and scrapes. Making it a display piece is a great idea!

So cool Mari! I love vintage looking things like this too. So adorable for a bathroom - especially a nurse's bathroom! Lol ;)

Mama used Metheolate because if it didn't burn, she said, it didn't work.

That's awesome. I do indeed remember sporting knees stained orange with mercurochrome. Our home apothecary also included campho-phenique! Also Geritol. I can still smell that stuff. Nasty. xoxo
