Standing Firm

May of you know that Bob does quite a bit of carving.  He always has a project of some sort going.  He does caricature carvings, and he usually has several orders waiting to be done.  He had a little extra time between carvings this winter and decided to do one for himself.  He said he always wanted to carve a Hoplite warrior.  Hoplite warriors were from ancient Greece, were armed with a shield and spear, and had an unusual helmet.
He did his carving, but with a twist.  This warrior is a Christian warrior.  He's a reminder that there are many things going on in our world right now that require us to hold on to our faith and stand firm.
Here's what he looks like.

The plaque says "Standing Firm - Ephesians 6:10-13"

The Hoplite shield usually had an emblem that looked like an upside down V;  this one has the Christian Fish symbol.

I always appreciate all the little details Bob puts in his carvings.

The helmet is pretty cool!

This warrior has a wound on his arm.  We may also have some wounds as we go through this life, but we are called to keep standing firm!

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm."
Ephesians  6:10-13

Wow!! what a talent! And you are right about the wounds. We all have them so I am glad your husband took time to remind everyone of that. And I did enjoy all the small details.

It's been a while since I last visited blogs... But I am so thankful I did visit tonight, cause your words really spoke to my heart. Standing firm... we may have wounds... but in Christ we can stand firm. The carving is so precious. Your husband is truly gifted, even thinking of all those small details in his handiwork. Blessings on your day, dear Mari.

I am always in awe of Bob's talent, but this piece is beyond talent, it is anointed. My goodness, the detail is amazing. Others may be able to try to duplicate a work, but none more from the heart then Bob's work. God bless him and his talented hands.

He is just so amazingly talented Mari!! Great job Bob!! ;) The details are absolutely beautiful. And I LOVE what he stands for and it's so true. Just as even today we hear about more terrorist attacks in the world. We need to stand up and join together, united, as loving Christian people. To spread the word of love and peace.

Blessings. xoxo

Amazing! Bob does such wonderful work. I'm guessing it's a task of love. Don't know if I ever told you but our paternal grandfather (he passed when we were really young) was a carver. I have a couple of pieces he did; maybe will show them on the blog one day. :)

WOW! His carvings never cease to amaze me. His attention to detail is just so cool. I bet it was fun to be able to do one for himself. This is for sure going to be a family treasure.
