A Day in my Life - August

This can not be right!  How can it be August already?  And why does summer fly by while winter drags along?  :)
Anyway, it's that time again.  Here's how I spent the first day of the month (lots of photos!)

We haven't had the girls overnight lately because Alaina has been taking swimming lessons on Saturdays.  Since I had Tuesday off, we took them overnight on Monday.
They slept well, Alaina was up around 7:30 and Ruby slept till almost 8.

Here they are after just getting up, waiting for me to get them breakfast.

They ate and then played for a short time.

They came downstairs with me to start the laundry.

They played in the family room, while I walked for a short while on the treadmill.

I could see and talk to them as I walked.  I usually do 30 minutes but this time stopped at 17 minutes and did the rest later,  because I didn't want to press my luck!

Then we all got cleaned up and dressed and I did their hair.  There was a funny story while getting them ready.  Ruby was sure her underwear were backwards because there was a panda on the backside and she thought it should be in the front.  After trying to put it the right way for a few minutes, I decided it didn't matter and put it backwards which made her happy.  :)  I did tell Laura when I brought her home that she wanted it that way and I hadn't completely lost my mind!

We played outside for a while.  It was a very nice day!

Then we picked up McDonalds and had lunch with Grandpa at his work.  That's always fun!

 They love McDonalds!

They also loved this spinning chair in his breakroom.

We stopped at the dollar store on the way home and they each picked out a few things.  Alaina says "you can buy anything at the dollar store!"

Another reason I stopped at the dollar store was to buy cheap straws and a pencil sharpener.  I had seen something that showed that if you put a plastic straw through a pencil sharpener, it would come out in a coil which you could then wrap around your wrist as a bracelet.  They had fun doing this and even if they never wear them, it was fun to do for $1.50!

It was time to head home.  We admired the pretty sky and the wild flowers growing along the side of the road.  Alaina reminded me that God is very, very big and He made all of this!

We stopped at the grocery store on the way to pick up a few things.  We also picked up a little flower bouquet.

We took the flowers and stopped at my Dad and step-moms house.  Ruby was very excited to give them to Great - Grandma.

They were happy to see Great-grandpa too!

Ann is 88 years old and still gets on the floor and plays with the kids!

After all that playing I brought them home.  Unfortunately they started fighting when they got home and poor Laura was left with a crying Ruby...

I saw this field with hay bales on my way home.  It's one of my favorite scenes!

When I got home, I finished the treadmill walk I had started earlier, finished my laundry and got supper ready.  I also got to talk on the phone to my friend Cheryl, from Winds of Life!

Roast beef, redskin mashed potatoes and fresh beans - the first ones of the season. I love beans and could eat them for every meal when they are fresh!

Bob had to go to a meeting after supper. I worked on these little gift bags I am doing for our nurse aids to celebrate Certified Nurse Aid week.  All that's left to do is print a tag and tie them shut.

The rest of the evening was spent relaxing.  It was a very nice way to start the month!!

What a great day to document!! Those girls are so cute and funny! I had tears at the picture of the girls with your dad and stepmom. Isn't that the way it goes? They start fighting and crying when mom and dad are back in the picture. Always makes me feel bad for the parents, but mine did that too.

Mari, you are such a wonderful grandmother! You come up with the neatest things for your grandgirls to do! No wonder they love coming to your house. What a treat that you could take them to McDonald's to pick up lunch and then take them to your husband's work and share with him. It is remarkable that your step mother is 88 and still down on the floor playing with the girls. That reminds me of my grandmother. :)

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

What a wonderful day!
Sure they were just played out but happy.
Crying is just part of it, makes you fill bad.
Love the look of your new blog.

Grandma wisdom! I even let the wee ones dress themselves only to meet with picky mamma's expectation. Backwards is the new style. Oh, that great step grandma, I so admire her and wish I could kneel like that! Loved this post.

Your girls remind me of my granddaughters but years ago. They are 28 and 30 now. Miss those times.

Remember when we would laugh at Ruby's hair as it stuck right out everywhere? We knew that it would settle down one day but look at it now.....gorgeous! Alaina and Ruby's hair is so pretty. Your fresh green beans so look good. We have had some this year also and like you, I could eat them every day. I must look into that pencil sharpener trick. I cannot figure how that works. I must google it.

Those girls are so adorable! I wouldn't want to sit on a cute panda either!! You had a fun, but very busy day! Hope the girls (or at least Ruby) got a nap and got over the grumpiness when they got home.

You sure had quite a busy day, Mari, and how fun to spend it with those little cuties. They are both so beautiful. I agree with Cheryl, I always loved seeing Ruby's hair and I kind of miss it. LOL

I've said it before but I love the way you pack so much into a day, without ever seeming frazzled. Laura seems to have inherited your calm, as she doesn't look in the least rattled by Ruby's tears. Those little girls are racking up some precious memories of a kind and loving family and a charmingly simple life. As for Ann ... wow. I get down on the floor with the kids too, but I have a tough time getting back up! Haaahahaha xoxo

What child doesn't love McDonalds! I can't believe how much Ruby is growing up!

And yeah Granny is losing her mind putting the kids underwear on backwards! Ha.
