A Day in my Life - October

We've made it to October already. Here in Michigan, we've been having beautiful weather, although we could really use some rain. It's been in the mid 50's in the morning and reaching mid 70's in the afternoon. Lovely weather to be outside!
Here's how the first day of the month went for me.  It was a very busy day!

I always start my day with 30 minutes on the treadmill.  I did that and then got ready to head out the door.  I left the house at 9:15

This is about 5 minutes from my house.  I'm on my way to a Bible Study.

I arrived at church about 9:25. Our Bible study is on Philippians, Joy in Hard Times.  We were done at 11 and I was back on the road.

I drove to Meijer to get groceries and then headed back home.

Here's a scene from my drive home, something seen frequently around here.  Those are crates filled with onions that are being harvested.

I was home shortly before 1pm, had some lunch and then we had to leave again about 1:30.

Bob and I had an appt here at 2.  He had to review his insurance for the next year and I had to get signed up for Medicare because I'll be turning 65 in November!  We got that all taken care of and were headed home around 3.

We took the back roads home and enjoyed some pretty scenes.

I love seeing barns!

When we got home, I took advantage of the nice weather and took a short walk.  Most of our leaves are still green, but we are seeing some really changing.

Our church has Wednesday night programs and we eat supper there so I didn't have to cook.  We left for that around 5:30.

Here's a field we passed on the drive.  The sky is beautiful and the plants are all looking like Fall.

We had pasta, meatballs and salad for supper at church.

Usually we have classes after supper but this week we had something special going on.  It was shoe box packing night!  Our church supports Operation Christmas Child from Samaritan's Purse which sends Christmas boxes all over the world.  We collect things for the shoe boxes all year and when it's time, kids and adults come to help pack them.

Here's all the tables set up with toys, clothes, school supplies...  They were all arranged according to age, with girls things on one side and boys on the other to make it easier to pack the boxes.

And here everyone is getting started.
They also have tables to check each box before it gets closed up to make sure it's full and that it has a good selection of things inside. There's a table with cards so the packer can write a note to the child who gets it, another table with little items to fill all the spots in the box and one last table to pray for the child who is getting the box.  I was at the praying table.

We ended up with almost 300 boxes.  This van had the seats removed and was packed from top to bottom when we were done.  They are all taken to a warehouse to prepare to ship them out.

I got home a little before 9 and relaxed the rest of the night.
It was a very busy day, but a very good one!

Dear Mari, Philippians is a great book for Bible study. Your photos are beautiful. Your church supper sounds delicious and wholesome. Your church has a great program.

Hi Mari! Wow, your church really packed a lot of shoe boxes in one night. Our family packed shoe boxes for many years. When Our kids were younger, they really loved picking out the items to put in the boxes. Your Bible study sounds interesting - Philippians is a great book of scripture. It's good that you are getting your Medicare application taken care of. I had to do that last year. My next birthday (this week) will be #66! I hope October is a great month for you and Bob! See you again soon!

Wow you got a lot done. It makes me tired just reading it. My favorites are the old barn and the red leaves.

That is a lot of boxes you were able to gather together. Kudos to everyone involved. I love seeing the red barns too. In Ohio though they are mainly white which I never understood. My grandparents had red barns here in Michigan. Janice

Wow, that sounds like an intense but rewarding day! 📦🚚 Packing nearly 300 boxes is no small feat. It’s great you could finally relax afterward — you definitely earned it. Busy days like that feel so good when everything comes together! ✨💪

A nice, productive first day of October! Can you believe the weather we've had? My friend was in Traverse City last week and she said there is little to no colors on the trees! I think you have to go all the way up to the UP to see any pretty colors this year!

I love that your church does Operation Christmas Child. One church that we were a part of, did it and I loved it. I especially like the way that the whole church is involved in the packing. My favorite part? The fact that the last table is one that actually prays over the box. And, you, my friend, fill that spot beautifully.

It sounds like you had a really full day. Your photo's look like they could have been taken here where I live. Love the shoe boxes for Christmas. They will make a lot of people happy.

That shoebox project is wonderful! My church supports Parker Street Ministries, here locally, for kids Christmas gifts. All of them are a great way to support families during the holidays. The spaghetti dinner sounds good! I'm late getting around while my guests are still here but will catch up!! xo

That’s a lot of boxes! Yes it’s that time of year again for Operation Christmas Child, and the Marines Toys For Tots! Since I don’t have grands, I enjoy shopping for the children.
I love old barns, too. I really like the tree photo with the beautiful leaves. 🍁

Now this is a prime example of a great day! I would love to do all that you did, of course right now just walking across the street to talk to a neighbor is a great day for me. ha ha

Oh, I just love Chatty Crone's comment. You really do LIVE Church.
We did the Shoebox thing for so many years at our former church. We also did boxes for those in the military. I always felt so blessed to be a part of it.
Mari, you live in such a beautiful part of the country. When you are so busy its wonderful to get those little views of God's creation.
Glad you got all that "official" paperwork done. Welcome to the Medicare Club. I will be 82 on Nov. 4th... been in that Club for a long time!!
Enjoy your day

I love that your church is participating in Samaritan's Purse. I wish our church would do that.
Your weather sounds lovely. My daughter in Vermont is having upper 30s some nights. We're still in the 50s at night and 70s during the day.
Philippians is one of my favorite chapters.
Have a lovely week!

What a very good day.
Many of our local schools make up shoe box gifts for distribution to various charities at Christmas ... a lovely thing to do and all boxes are very gratefully received.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

All the best Jan
