National Day of Prayer

Did you know that Thursday is National Day of Prayer? It's a day set aside for those of us in the United States to pray for our country. In these times, prayer is so important, but it seems there are so many people trying to stop any connection between our nation and prayer. Here are a few facts to remind of us the connection that has been between our Faith and our Nation from the beginning.

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court, you can see near the top of the building, a row of the world's law givers. Each one is facing the one in the middle, who is facing forward ... It is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments.

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

As you sit inside the courtroom, you will see another display of the Ten commandments
on the wall, right above the area where the judges sit.

Did you know that there are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal buildings and
the monuments in Washington, DC?

James Madison, the fourth president, who was known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement:

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self=government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God".

Patrick Henry, the Patriot and a Founding Father of our Nation, said:

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Did you know that each session of Congress begins with a prayer be a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayers since 1777?

Did you know that 52 of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies?

Thomas Jefferson worried the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law, would begin making the law an oligarchy. (form of government in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society)

The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay said:
"Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How have we gotten to the point where everything that we have done in the last 220 years is wrong and unconstitutional?
Our country needs prayer, now more than ever. On Thursday, please set aside some time to pray for our country and our leaders.
