National Day of Prayer

Did you know that Thursday is National Day of Prayer? It's a day set aside for those of us in the United States to pray for our country. In these times, prayer is so important, but it seems there are so many people trying to stop any connection between our nation and prayer. Here are a few facts to remind of us the connection that has been between our Faith and our Nation from the beginning.

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court, you can see near the top of the building, a row of the world's law givers. Each one is facing the one in the middle, who is facing forward ... It is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments.

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

As you sit inside the courtroom, you will see another display of the Ten commandments
on the wall, right above the area where the judges sit.

Did you know that there are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal buildings and
the monuments in Washington, DC?

James Madison, the fourth president, who was known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement:

"We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self=government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God".

Patrick Henry, the Patriot and a Founding Father of our Nation, said:

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Did you know that each session of Congress begins with a prayer be a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayers since 1777?

Did you know that 52 of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies?

Thomas Jefferson worried the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law, would begin making the law an oligarchy. (form of government in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society)

The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay said:
"Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."

How have we gotten to the point where everything that we have done in the last 220 years is wrong and unconstitutional?
Our country needs prayer, now more than ever. On Thursday, please set aside some time to pray for our country and our leaders.

God has said that he put our leaders in their place for a reason - let's pray that they allow themselves to be used by him!

Great post. One of the highlights of my life was seeing all those at the Supreme Court. Our Nation WAS/IS built and based on our great Father God and His Word. The Word will stand!!!

I can't help but laugh and sigh at all these details...all over the place...in washington. No matter how hard they try, it's etched into the buildings. LOVE it!

National Day of Prayer is a big event here in Lancaster. Tony Evans is coming to speak. His son is coming to lead the music. A huge choir will be singing which is made up of about 45 churches around the county. If we were to go, we would have to be shuttled in. I have never gone because of all the people.

Yes, there is a planned meetin' on our Tinytown's square for our town to gather together in prayer. I agree, this country needs prayer more now than ever.

Isn't it amazing how our country is founded on God and how prevalent the reminder is that so many have fallen away? Prayer has to be the answer.

God bless you and have a wonderful day.

I love those facts. Too many people try to get rid of the facts that our country was founded on Christian beliefs!

What an interesting post, Mari.I didn't know all these things. And, as for prayer, I must say that I've been gradually learning how to pray and it is absolutely wonderful. As a Catholic for many years, I was used to praying with words that were not mine and that I had learnt since I was a child. Understanding that I could use my own words and have a true relationship with God was a bit difficult at the beginning but it is wonderful.

Great post. Sarah (Short Stop) wrote a paper in college about how our country was founded on Christian principles. Thanks for posting this.

Not only history but true facts right in front of all those who are opposing the fact that our country was founded on Christian beliefs.

Interesting. I didn't realize that we have set aside one day for prayer...tho, in my opinion our country needs more than one day of it!!! Each and every day.

Thanks for the post Mari. With our leaders minimizing the importance of this day, we citizens have to take up the slack!

It is sad to say that although President Obama has not canceled the National Day of prayer, he will not observe it, not wishing to offend anyone.
Have you seen the commercial, "I'm not afraid to Proclaim the Gospel Of Jesus Christ"? This year, I feel moved to proclaim his works!
