I live near Holland Michigan, an area that was settled by Dutch immigrants and is full of reminders of the Netherlands. My great-grandparents on both sides came from the Netherlands as well, and so did Bob's so we appreciate that heritage. Holland has an annual Tulip Time Festival, one of the largest festivals in the U.S every year. It's been happening since 1929 and brings in people from all over the world. Last year there were nearly 1 million visitors. A highlight is the tulips planted all over the city - over 5 million of them! Another highlight is Dutch dancing with over 900 dancers in traditional clothing form the late 1800's, including wooden shoes.
We usually try to go before the festival to avoid the crowds. This year I tried to go with Heather and Laura, but sick kids caused us to cancel.
Last week, after the festival was done, Heather and I decided to take Cassie and Connor and see if any tulips were still blooming.
We then visited another area in Holland and found a few more tulips.
Our last stop was for lunch. Cassie had fun trying out this cut out of Dutch street cleaners.
We didn't see many tulips, but we still had fun!

Dear Mari, it looks like a fantastic day and your photos are lovely and enchanting.
They look like they were having the BEST time! I would just love this! So much to see! And oh my, the frilly purple and white tulip!!!!
I totally get wanting to avoid the crowds. It looks like you had a lovely time even though there weren't that many tulips left.
What a beautiful outing.
What a delightful day with your daughter and two of your precious grands. Cassie is getting tall and her hair is getting long. And that Connor...well, what words are there to describe his cuteness...especially when that smile spreads across his face.
This sounds like a special place to visit. Loved the pictures you were able to get of the tulips...and the one of Heather and the littles is precious!
Your grandchildren are absolutely adorable, Mari! So happy that you all could enjoy a magical day together even the tulips weren't at their peak.
There weren't any tulips when I was there last summer, but I loved seeing the windmill, the gift shops there, AND the Wizard of Oz sculptures in downtown. You are a great hostess and have beautiful and interesting places all around you there in your lovely Michigan! Cassie and Connor are so cute (and look like their momma!!)!! xo
I love tulips but it seems no one around here plants them. I wonder why? They are,so beautiful with deep profound colors.
It looks like a really fun time. Too bad you didn't get to see them in full bloom but sometimes it's hard when some things only bloom so long.
Oh, that sounds like a perfectly delightful day. Even faded tulips are pretty. The kiddos seemed to have had a great time anyway. Lots to see and do. Love Cassie in the cutout of the sweepcleaners.

You all really have some interesting places near by. Not only do the girls love these outings, but I know you both are having tons of fun too. Such great photos Mari...
Looks like the kiddos had a wonderful time. They probably wouldn't be that excited about the flowers as much as the other things anyway, so it was a perfect time to take them, without the crowds! At least that's my opinion! LOL. Those two are sure growing fast. Such cuties. You are so blessed to live close. Thank you for sharing the fun with us!
Tulips are my favorite flower and every year I tell myself I'm going to find a tulip festival and go! It looks like fun!
Oh wow! The Tulip Festival sounds wonderful! How great to see the tulips even if they were past their best. It looks like everyone had a fantastic day.
What a wonderful place. I've been there quire a few years ago and loved it.
My mother's family all came from the Netherlands.
Happy new week to you my dear Mari! I have it on my bucket list to go there for the festival (or sometime around then) to see all of those tulips! The photos you have shared and others I have seen are just breathtaking. Love that there is a lot of special history there. It sure looks like you did have fun with your sweet Crew. Blessings xo
Looks like a fun outing! You always do neat things with your grandchildren. Have a good week!
A great way to spend time together!
What a beautiful day!!!!
Tulips and the wizard of Oz how could it get any better?
Cathy
Oh, how that looks so beautiful - my maiden name was Holland - wonder if we are from there - probably not, but would like to think so. The kids were so cute.
Cassie is just the best travel companion and the most photogenic! What a cutie.
Looks like the kids were happy and that is a good thing. I would love to see all of this and would like to see 900 dancers. but not the crowds of people. a fun day out and you did see some of the tulips. I have never seen tulips growing except in Stores in pots on mothers day
