Bob and I took a short trip to Dearborn, Michigan to visit the Henry Ford Museum. Last year we were there to see Greenfield Village with Alaina and Ruby, but didn't have time for the museum, so we decided we needed to go back for some museum time.
Dearborn is about 2 1/2 hours from our house, on the other side of the state. We saw this semi along the way and it was so cute!
We checked into our hotel and decided to walk the 3/4 mile to the restaurant to enjoy the city streets. It's fun to see the different buildings.
We ate at Ford's Garage, a place we were at last year. It's all decorated with old cars and car things, and the burgers are fantastic!
Here we are the next morning, ready to take on the museum. This is like no other museum I've been to and is an all day adventure.
One of the first things we saw was a bunch of presidential cars. The top one was Franklin Roosevelts, bottom right was Theodore Roosevelts carriage and the bottom left was the car JFK was in when he was assasinated.
Thomas Edison was a good friend of Henry Ford, and signed his name in the cement when the museum was being built.

We had lunch in an old diner that was moved into the museum from New Jersey.
This is a Stradivarius violin that was owned by Henry Ford. He could play it, but played it in the style of a fiddle.

Here in Montreal, we have the Orange Julep which is an iconic restaurant decades old. Very popular.
It is shaped like an orange and people bring their vintage cars once in a while, kind of like a show and tell.
I really like the Rosa Parks bus. She was an amazing woman.

What a fun getaway, Mari! The Henry Ford Museum looks absolutely incredible — so much history in one place. I loved seeing all the presidential cars, Lincoln’s chair, Rosa Parks’ bus, and even Poe’s writing table. What an experience! Your photos made it feel like we were right there with you. So glad you and Bob had such a great trip.
Oh Wow! That is quite a collection of items...not just old cars! I know we visited there way back probably in the early 1990's, but all I remember were the old cars. Maybe some of that stuff has been added since then. How neat that you could actually eat in the diner! Also at the Ford's restaurant. I haven't been to one of those yet, but I'd love to go to one. I think there's one near St. Augustine or maybe Jacksonville. Looks like you had a great time! Thank you for sharing it with us!!

That truck is so cute and I love the Ford Garage place. What a fun place to eat! The museum looks fantastic with so many interesting things to see and so much history!
The Museum is big too! I went on the bus and the seats were so tiny back then. It was sad seeing President Kennedy's car and Lincoln's chair. Did you see the set up for the first motel? That was interesting too. Plus all of the clocks. However Bob and I usually like going to the village each time we go. We always enjoyed that and always saw something different each time...even though we went yearly until covid. Janice

Oh, my goodness, Mari! I had no idea that there were so many historic objects at the Ford Museum. I truly enjoyed learning from your photos and narration as I love anything about history. Glad you're home safely!
I enjoy museums and this one has some really interesting collections, some I would have thought would be at the Smithsonian. Sounds like my kind of getaway!

I love the Henry Ford Museum! I haven't been in a few years but I could spend all day there! Next time you want to venture this way try to visit the Detroit Historical Museum. I guarantee you will love it!
How fun, and how interesting! I've been to Greenfield Village but don't remember that we went to the museum. I am sure it's an entire day (or two) to really dig into the exhibits! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us, and welcome home!! xo
Many interesting artifacts here... this looks like such a fun trip and filled with much to do. I was a little taken back at just seeing that chair that Abe Lincoln was sitting in. I love that the two of you are sure enjoying retirement and getting to see so many different things.. this is awesome

What a wonderful mini-vacation you two took. I like when there is plenty of time to really enjoy the exhibits. Looks like you found some great places to eat and just be together in your retirement.

wow, it is an amazing place! It has so much more than just cars! some things that fascinated me were the Lincoln chair, the Poe desk, Edison's cement signature and the amazing places you ate. What a wonderful trip!
We stopped at the museum about 10 or 15 years ago and enjoyed it so much that we bought grandparent passes. We returned several times over the year with young grandchildren and each trip was just as much fun and exciting as the first. All those visits and we never made it to Greenfield Village. Maybe this year.

I would dearly love to visit that museum! Thomas Edison....if you ever get the chance read this book: "Eiffel's Tower" by Jill Jonnes. You don't think of Thomas Edison connected with the Eiffel Tower! Such a fascinating man! (Oh, and you will just LOVE Annie Oakley too, also mentioned in this book!) Mr. Eiffel is mentioned too, LOL! x

What a fabulous time you had and so many interesting things there to see. We went to the FORD restaurant in Ohio. Cool the way the cars go around. Wish I could walk better like you I think I would enjoy things better.
How fun!!! That burger looks amazing! We bought our first Ford this year lol, we've always been Honda people but we bought our daughter an explorer and we like it! I do love museums, this one looks so fun, and I do remember all of those items in the museum from my childhood lol, the furby, the simon... how are my childhood toys in a museum? LOL
