A little more fun in Dearborn

We visited Henry Ford's home in Dearborn. Unfortunately, it's being renovated so you can't go inside. But, visitors are free to walk the yard and gardens, which even at this time of year are beautiful.

Henry and Clara Ford built this home and moved into it in 1915.

This is the front and side of the home with patio you can't see in this photo.

We walked to the side yard where we found this doorway dug into the side of a hill. It turned out to be a boat house. Another opening was dug on the other side which opens to the river.

Look what was above the door...   It was a wood chuck!

There were also several geese in the area.

Looking up at the house from the boat house.

The back of the house and back yard.

The Rogue River runs behind the house

A walled garden on the other side of the house.  There were all kinds of roses growing here, so it will soon be a beautiful spot!

A statue of Henry and Clara Ford.

We really enjoyed wandering around the home and yard and hope to return someday to tour the interior.

Dear Mari, what a lovely place. Beautiful photos. ❤️ Nice to see our Canada 🇨🇦 geese making their way around to visit our great neighbours in the U.S.
Your photos are so enchanting.

What a delightful place, Mari! Seeing the door in the wall reminded me of one of my favorite childhood classics, "The Secret Garden." Such a serene and peaceful place to visit.

What an unusual bouse. It looks a bit like a castle. I would love to see inside all the nooks and crannies. Especially the rounded almost turret section. The purple flowers are maybe Allium. What a gorgeous place to build! Ginny

Thanks for sharing your tour with us. Henry Ford was such a great industrialist and is not just famous for making the best affordable car for Americans but also for his ingenuity in creating the first assembly lines. That made a huge impact on the industrial age.

Thanks for the tour. Is the house far from you? There is a Rogue river in Oregon too. I went on a speed boat and it was fun! Enjoy your week!

What a nice tour I didn't expect to take :) That looks like a great house and property to visit. I would have liked to see the inside of the boathouse. The blue gate caught my attention too.

Was once told that Henry brought his mistress into that tunnel from the River Rouge. It is a wonderful house. Janice

It's on the other side of the state, about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Yes! Made me think of The Secret Garden too!

Good golly, that's a beautiful home and grounds! Take lots of photos for us when you go back to tour the inside! I chuckled at the woodchuck...started singing '...how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood...' LOL

What a great trip! That is a gorgeous estate. I have visited his winter home in Ft. Myers Florida many times and it is equally impressive. It sits next to his friend Thomas Edison's estate. They did love statues back then, didn't they? There is one by the Caloosahatchee River of Edison, Ford and Firestone called the Uncommon Friends. It's always been one of my favorites.

Even with the renovations, this looks like such a lovely place to visit. The gardens and grounds alone seem worth the trip, especially with the river, walled garden, and peaceful walking areas. The little woodchuck above the doorway must have been a fun surprise too. I enjoyed seeing these photos and learning a bit more about Henry and Clara Ford’s home.

This is a beautiful house, with architecture that strikes me as modern for the times. Around here we call that wood chuck a whistle pig :)

What a beautiful and huge house he had - my goodness. That had to cost a fortune. And such beauty from years ago.

Such an intriguing house, Mari!
It really does have that castle‑like charm, with so many corners that make you wonder what’s inside.
Your photos capture the character beautifully.

I love house tours, what a shame you couldn't see inside. The grounds are beautiful though.

I've always loved a round room, I bet it's even cooler on the inside. The grounds are lovely, too.
