Oh Christmas Tree

I think most of us have ornaments on our trees that are special to us; they may be from someone we love, remind us of a special time or brings back memories of years past.  Today I'm going to share a few of my special ornaments with you.

These bells decorated our wedding cake almost 45 years ago.  I had read something back then about saving things from your cake and putting them on your tree.  I did, and they've been on it every year since.

This is one that always makes us laugh.  When Bob and I were dating, we spent a day at a cottage with his family.  His sister was working on these ornaments for a bazaar.  Her work place was raising money for the residents there and she had been assigned these ornaments.  I helped her and we both laughed because we thought they were pretty ugly and we wondered if any would even sell.  Well - one did and was given to me that Christmas!  Every year it brings that fun memory back.

This beaded bell was given to me by the family of one of my patients.  She had dementia and made these while she still could. I became friends with her family and her daughter gave me this.  She's been gone for quite a few years so this one is special, and so is the friendship with her family.

Andy made this cute little angel in preschool.  It's a golf tee, a pine cone, a milk weed shell and a wooden ball.

These ornaments are so special.  My sister found someone who made these ornaments that had writing transferred onto them.  The one on the left is my moms writing from a card.  She's been gone for 21 years now. The one on the right has writing from Bob's mom who's been gone for 5 years.

This is an ornament my sister Terri gave me the year my Dad passed away. If you look into the little glass piece hanging down you will see a picture of him.

These are all Santa ornaments that Bob carved.  I love the character in each of them!

That's the end of my special ornaments for this year. I'm going to take a blog break now until after the new year.  Wishing you all a Blessed Christmas, celebrating the birth of Christ!

Oh my, your tree is really a memory tree through almost all of your years. Kind of like a tree of your life. I love the sweet preschool gold angel. And the ones with the Mom's writing...they are both heartbreaking and wonderous. The bells from your wedding cake are so cool! And Bob is truly a wonderful artist. It is so hard to capture individuals faces, yet he makes each different with such emotion!! Anyone who can convey emotion with their art is a real artist.

Every single ornament is beautiful and special and a wonderful memory connected to each one.. My favorites for me are the carved Santas and I wish I had a talent like he does.. I am smiling because my tree is only 18 inches tall, can you imagine these on MY tree?

Oh my goodness! Those are ALL very special ornaments indeed! I love them all, and especially because they have such special memories attached to them. Yes, I have special ones too that remind me of dear ones gone on to heaven, and memories of places we've been and people we loved. Thank you for sharing these. Your husband's carved Santas are amazing!!!! And I love the idea of the signatures from your mothers on a Christmas ball. What a sweet idea. And the one your son made as a child is really clever!! Oh, they are all so wonderful! Thank you! Made me smile and a couple of little teary eyes.

That was a very nice post to look through and see what's special to you. I am sorry your mom has been gone so long. Mine gone too though not as long and she made me small gift box decorations out of old ciggy packs and I still have them. So fun and reminds me of her. And m gram, also gone, got me snowman heads and other snowflakes and when I have these each year, it's a bittersweet thing. Very cool. Happy Christmas!

Your ornaments are lovely, Mari. Our daughter has the cake topper from our wedding cake, or I would surely make an ornament from it. That's so neat...and how special to have both yours and Bob's mom's handwriting still with you even though they have been gone for many years now. Bob is such a talented carver of wood. Those Santas are amazing!

That is a good idea with the writing. A few years ago my brother had the idea to do that with my Dad's handwriting.

I love all of your ornaments. I like the idea of using the bells off of your wedding cake! I still have my topper and it still has 48 almost 49 years of dried-up frosting on the bottom! It's a conversation piece now!

These are all have such special memories attached. I got a chuckle ut of the story of how you got the "ugly" one (which I actually kind of like).
Bob is such a talented carver. Love his Santas, and also Andy's little angel, which is quite impressive for a pre-schooler.

Those are indeed very special ornaments. Thanks for sharing. I never heard of that about the wedding cake, but didn't really have anything on mine that wasn't icing, so there would have been nothing to keep. Those bells are beautiful! Your husband, Bob is very talented. The Santa's are great. Happy New Year to you.
