Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

Last week Bob and I took a day to just get out and have fun. We went to the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park which is about 30 minutes from our home.  I've shown you this place before because Laura and Aaron have given us a membership there for the last few years. We enjoy going and walking around different areas. It's huge so we'd never get the whole thing done in one visit.

There are different sections, like the sculpture park, a Japanese Garden, a woodlands walk, the kids garden, a farm garden and a boardwalk.  This time we decided to focus on the sculpture park.

This was founded by Fred Meijer, who started Meijer stores and is such a gift to our community and all the people who visit it from all over.  This is a statue of Fred and his wife Lena.

I've shown this statue before, but it's so impressive I have to share again.  This is the DaVinci horse, made from a DaVinci drawing. There is an identical horse in Italy.  You can see how big it is by looking at those spots on the hill behind it.  Those are people.

This one is called Neuron.  I'm not usually a fan of more modern type sculpture but this one looks kind of cool sitting out in nature.

This pond and waterfalls is so pretty!

Balancing Act

The Arch

Not a sculpture!  :)   Just a selfie we took along the way.

We had been there a few hours when we finished the sculpture area and decided we weren't ready to go home yet, so we walked over to the farm garden.  This is a replica of the farm that Lena Meijer grew up on.

All of the gardens have sculptures through them. This was by the house and I thought it was sweet.

Isn't this pig the cutest?

This raven sculpture made me think of my friend Jenny from I'm Having a Thought Here.  She loves Poe and I knew she would appreciate them.

One last sculpture as we leave the farm area.  This is Lena Meijer as a girl, riding a pig!

We walked through the woodlands to get back to the entry.  It was a beautiful day to enjoy nature and art both!

I love this place! I love Poe, and crows even better. The arch looks like it has no mortar to hold it together, just the pressure of the bricks!! I love the big horse, it looks like it is prancing. The photo of the two of you is really lovely!

What a beautiful place to visit. The Botanical Gardens in St. Louis is very similar and we love visiting there. That pig is the cutest. It looks like you had a wonderful day!
