Acorns keep falling on my head!

You know the song about Raindrops falling?  Around here it's been acorns!
We have 6 large oak trees in our front yard and some years we have more acorns than other years.  This seems to be one of those years.
We literally can't walk in the yard without stepping on several acorns.

Look at all of them in a small area!

And there are more to come down.

When you look up into the trees, you can see more bunches of them ready to fall.

The worst part of this is the noise it makes in the house.  A few of the trees have branches that hang high over the house.  You really can't believe how much noise one of those acorn bunches can make when they fall from a distance and then bounce down the roof.  It wakes us up at night, and sometimes you would think there was something running around on the roof.  When it's just one acorn, you can hear it hit and then bounce like a stone down off the roof.

I'm thinking this may mean a bad winter.  It seems in the past that when the acorns are plentiful, so is the snow!

That is a lot of acorns! Our neighbor has a metal out building and the acorns make so much noise when they bounce on the roof! I hope you won't have an abundance of snow this winter.

Girl I totally feel you. This year (so far) does not seem to be a "banner year" for acorns plummeting from our white oak, but there's still plenty of time for that type of situation to develop. And I know well the sound you're talking about! They're super LOUD when they hit the roof of our sun room. I nearly jump out of my skin if I'm concentrating on something when one decides to turn loose and become a nutty missile. Rizzo and Sweetness flip out too. xoxo

We have lots of oak trees too....and the acorns DO make lots of noise!! I've had a few hit the van as I was driving and I literally jump in my seat.

I was driving on a narrow rural road yesterday and something hit my windshield. It wasn't the usual projected object from the wheel of a truck because there was no truck. I'll bet it was an acorn. It was loud!
Good luck in getting through the noise and cleanup. :)

Just popping in to check on you, Mari. That's a bunch of acorns. Girl, if you had pecan trees instead, think of all the pecan pies you could make.

I think you are right about the bad winter. Lots of acorns. I know what that feels like and sounds like because we had them at our old house. What a mess they made!! No oak trees here in Mas Verde. Lots of food for the wildlife, though!

Oh my goodness, I can well imagine. I do remember reading something about that in the Farmers Almanac years ago. I have to admit when I read the title that old song popped into my head.

Anthony and Lori have tons of acorns too. Sometimes it doesn't feel safe to stand in their driveway. Ray said that when he was hunting over there on Saturday there were SO MANY chipmunks and squirrels in the woods fighting over the acorns! Ugh. I hope it doesn't mean a snowy winter. I can't even bear to think about it.

We have several oak trees and I have never looked for acorns! I will have to change that this year.

Like you, I have always heard that a hard winter was in the making when there is so many acorns. The squirrels take that hint I believe and bury many in my yard and the next year we have to contend with so many little trees shooting up from them.
I am happy our neighbor removed about three of hers hanging over in our yard as there is not quite as many to get up this year along with all the leaves.
