Local wildlife

For the past month or so, there's been a herd of deer in a field near my house every night.  I've seen about 12 there many evenings.

The other night when I went past only these 3 deer were left.  You can see how they've been digging up the snow to get something to eat.

As soon as I took the first picture, they took off.

One last look back, and they were all gone.  I think they're such beautiful animals and I always enjoy seeing them!

We had 4 in our backyard yesterday. They are so graceful when they run.

I would go broke trying to feed them (and I know feeding them is not the thing to do). They are so beautiful. Hopefully that snow will melt soon and they can get full and start having babies!

Hi Mari! What a beautiful sight! And the sky color is amazing too. You have a good camera.

The photo of them in flight is really lovely. I guess they made it through the harsh winter...they are probably really hungry :)

Have a great weekend!

I'm totally jeal that you got these great shots. After our snowstorm a month ago, we saw tracks of large deer in the snow in our front yard.

Then about a week ago Erica (whose bedroom is in the front of her house) was awakened at nearly 1 a.m. by the sound of SOMETHING rooting around in the bushes beneath her window. She was terrified but she tiptoed over and moved the curtain to get a look. Not one but SEVEN deer were standing around in a group beside her window while one of them dug around in the bush looking for something. Then as she watched, they walked off AS A UNIT down the street. She went and opened her front door and she could hear their hooves on the pavement!

A few days ago, TG was driving and looked over into a field and saw TEN deer walking. We do NOT live in the country! In SC deer season is all year long. Shoot all you want, as long as you have a hunting license. And the hunters do shoot tens of thousands each year, but it puts not even a dent in the deer population.

The end of my deer stories. LOL xoxo Jenny

Deer hunting here is a big thing. Men come from other states to our hunting clubs to shoot and kill and eat. My husband is not a hunter. I have eaten the venison that my BIL has given us but not my favorite. I'd rather watch the deer from my back porch only I don't have a back porch. These are beautiful.
