Tassels of a different type...

Our yard had quite a look going last week.  We have a lot of oak trees and in the Spring they drop something called tassels.  I'm told they are the flower of the oak tree.  We always have some, but this year was incredible.  Here's a few pictures to give you an idea.

Our front steps.

And here's what our entire yard looked like.  The roof looked brown instead of black.
If this has anything to do with acorn production we will be overwhelmed this year!

We have the same thing at our house, so many of them they look like huge tumble weeds!!!

Wow, that's a lot! We have a few but nothing like that. If you leave them they can stain the ground can't they?

Tassels? Who knew? All these years, I've seen them but never thought about what they were called.

And yes, you've got a lot!

Our Pecan Tree does the same thing. Trouble is, the driveway is LOADED each year and it gets tracked into the garage, then...into the house.

SQUIRREL ALERT this coming autumn.

there are a lot them in our yard too. Didn't know they were called "tassels". Interesting....

Seems there should be a poem in there some where about all the tassles...not by me, but someone with talent should be able to come up with something.
Work on that Mari, LOL!

It looks like you have a lot of vacuuming to do. We do not have oak trees, but the lady across the street has a big maple tree. Our yard and driveway are covered with the helicopter seeds. Alan bought a blower with a vacuum to keep them collected. Many have taken root already and little maple trees are growing in my flower beds.

An oak towers over our house and we get tasseled into near-oblivion every year. But last year, the acorns were sparse compared to other years. I think we're in for an extra heaping helping of acorn bombs come autumn!

Did you know that you can make an edible ground meal out of acorns? I think you should try it, considering your probable abundance of acorns this year, and let us know how it goes!
