Snow continues

Yesterday's post ended on Tuesday of last week. The snow continued to fall, just not as heavy as it had been.

On Wednesday we went out for groceries and a few errands, knowing things weren't going to get better.

The roads weren't good.  This is a main road near us. The constant snow made it hard for the plows to keep up.  Also, the temps were in the low teens which causes salt to be ineffective in melting snow and ice.

Dark clouds with an occasional sight of blue sky.

When the wind was blowing, it was hard to see.  (Don't worry - Bob was driving, I was taking these pictures from the passenger seat).

These are the woods I like to walk in, but that doesn't happen in this season.

Here's our street. Our house is just past that big pine tree.

Here's the house, in the snow again.  We remarked several times how thankful we were for a warm house.

We continued to get snow, about 3-4 inches every day from Tuesday to Thursday.

Bob was hanging out in the basement, occupying himself by working on this puzzle of WWII aircraft. It was too cold to get his woodshop warmed up, so he was trapped in the house.

But look what happened Friday!  We had a sunrise we could see.

Our little shed in the back was getting buried in snow.

Here's a graphic put out by our local news station on Friday.  We are right in the middle of that purple spot and got 26.5 inches of snow.  Schools were closed all week long. I don't remember that ever happening before.

The snow stopped, and then the cold moved in. This is from Saturday morning when our temps were the lowest they've been in 32 years and just 5 degrees higher then the all time low record.  We are between Holland and Grand Rapids and were at negative16 degrees.

This was my little experiment on Saturday.  I saw others doing this so I joined in. This is one of Bob's denim shirts. I got it wet and brought it outside. In 10 minutes it was frozen stiff.  It's not propped up on anything, just standing in the snow. I should have stood it up a little better, but I was too cold to stand out there and fuss around!

It's still cold and snowy this week, but it's better than last week!  And I'll really enjoy Spring when it arrives.

Dear Mari, your photos are gorgeous, dear friend! We got quite a bit of snow here in Montreal as well, last night and today! And the snow removal trucks were out in full force. They have a lot of snow to clear in Montreal, which is a big city.
Our temperatures are going to drop as well, and this means there will be ice.
Please take care of yourself and stay warm and safe.
Oh, and this is just a response to a comment you made on my blog...I have psoriatic arthritis, and I have had several attacks of uveitis in the past due to the arthritis attacking my body. Thankfully I haven't had uveitis is more than three years, but I had the first episode in 2012, then the second in 2021, and the third, which actually was in both eyes, in 2022. I am grateful that I don't have any arthritis pain but I do get things like mentioned above now and then.

You sure have a lot of snow. I'm jealous. People here in Utah are praying for snow! I love that picture of your warm and cozy house in the snow. Fun experiment to see how quickly Bob's shirt would freeze. It looks like the perfect Halloween decoration for your yard - the a few months too late! So glad you enjoyed "Bride Wars." It's a really fun movie. Stay warm and cozy in all that snow!

It all looks so pretty! Stay safe and warm!

The photo of your house is beautiful! You should frame it or use it as a Christmas card.
It is freezing here - 1 degree without the wind chill. We just keep getting more snow and I am so glad I am inside. I am also glad I don't have young children.
Love the shirt experiment.

That is SO cold! And you must have gotten more snow than anywhere else. My favorite photo is the snowy road with the wind blowing. And all the bare tree trunks.

I sure can't complain about it being in the 30s here (at night for a few hours)! The shirt made me laugh because our Good Day Tampa Bay news this morning showed some of that going on up north. One was spaghetti noodles, held up with a fork and it froze like that with the fork suspended above the plate of spaghetti noodles. That's COLD!! Stay safe, you two!! xo

Bob's shirt is kind of like a piece of art. It must be so very cold! Do you feel isolated by the weather?

So much snow! I hope you keep warm and there is no power cuts. Here in Dubai today sun and 24 degrees C. I have a rest today and look after William who is not feeling well well and can’t go to the nursery with fever. Stay safe!

The main road here yesterday sucked in the morning and we had to go out for dr. appts. Am so over Winter. Cool idea with the shirt. I should have done that last Saturday. Stay warm my friend. It will be over soon...I hope. Janice

The frozen shirt is a neat idea. Looks fun to do but yeah, burrrr. LOVE the trees and the area you get to walk in when the snow is not there or as deep. Very peaceful.

OH, I LOVE the shirt! That's hilarious!! And I love your shed! Is that a "she shed"? It's pretty enough to be one. Your drive through the snow is so beautiful! Yes, you really got a lot of snow and very cold temps! We will actually get down to 20 degrees this weekend...which is quite cold for us! Wind chills will be much lower. Blackie likes coming inside more and more...
Y'all stay safe and warm and cozy in your pretty house in the snow. Thanks for sharing the beauty with us, from a distance! LOL.

Oh brrr! You've got a LOT of snow! It's like east of Ontario, they measure in feet, not inches. I hate driving in it when the wind is blowing like that...ugh. But, it IS beautiful!

It certainly is a winter wonderland there! It was 11 degrees this morning when I got up with a "feel like" temp of 0. I'm ready for spring.
Say hi to Bob's denim shirt for me!

Boy you were in the thick of it. My friend who lives on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska wasn't that cold. They were in the 20's! Oh those photos are so nice. I especially loved the two of the woods. Frame-worthy! That shirt experiment is so cool. Kinda like us, baking cookies in our van during hot spells! I think I would have done my husband's overalls - that would have been freaky. An iced scarecrow! ❄

Morning Mari....each of your photos could easily be turned into prints and hung . Would make for a fascinating wall. This is a huge amount of Winter Snow...I just can't imagine trying to manage with this much stuff on the ground. Everything around you is so pretty.... Y'all keep warm...

Wow Mari ... this is totally amazing to me! Living in the outer Sacramento Valley of California, your type of COLD and snow is completely foreign to me. -16F ... Good Grief, that's too durn cold for man or beast.
I love, love, love the picture of the aspens or beech trees . That is definitely a wall hanger. I would put that one on canvas. It compliments the color palate of your home.
Driving in that blustery snow would be so scary for me.
I'm so glad you have a wazrm cozy home to hunker down in.

Holy moly! I can't believe the epic snowfall you got there. It's crazy!! I'm glad you folks are cozy and safe (& keeping it all over there - Lol). We were in FL visiting Annie and it was so beautiful (70's & 80's) So hard to come back late last night to this arctic weather. 🙈 But it was amazing getting time with her and soaking up some sunbeams. :)

BRRR! Of course I see you used Bob's shirt and not yours. LOL I loved that. I loved your house. The snow. Everything. But it would be very hard to live there in that cold!

I kept thinking about how strange it must feel when a whole week is shaped by weather like this, days blending together, plans shrinking, life slowing whether you want it to or not. I love that you still noticed small, ordinary things in the middle of it all.

And that frozen shirt made me laugh... only in weather like that does something so simple become almost unreal. I’m glad you could ride it out in warmth, and yes… spring will feel extra sweet when it finally comes.

It all looks beautiful, but I know you are getting tired of all of this. The situation here is the same with the temps and road treatment not working. Stay in and stay warm!

You did get a lot of snow! I hope February is a little less wintery than January was! Someone in our park did the frozen clothes thing with a shirt and pants! It's pretty funny looking!

It's been so cold here too and getting even colder. According to my weather app it will be minus 10 about the time we hope to leave for Destiny's on Saturday morning. Loading the car will not be fun!! Please pray that we will have travel MERCIES!!!

I do remember that when we visited our friends in northwest Ontario Christmas 1977 it got down to minus 30. We could feel our nostrils freeze when we breathed outside!

It is in equal amounts fascinating and terrifying. And truly historic! I love the way your street and your house look laden with all those incredible inches (feet, more like) of snow! But your tolerance for going out in that is higher than mine because I get cold just looking at the pictures, hahaha! And I too am so grateful for your warm, cozy, inviting house. I know it's been so comfy for you. But you know how I love the look of snow falling, so I wouldn't be down in the basement! If I liked to do jigsaw puzzles (I don't, haha), I'd be asking you if I could put it on the dining table, hahaha! And you'd have to look me square in the eye and say no way. So then I'd have to set up a card table in the living room. How do you like that? Hahaha and now WE are predicted to see actual snow tomorrow! Stay tuned 🥶❄️🏴‍☠️
