Last weeks events

This is the woods I love to walk in.  We've had rain and wind and most of the leaves have fallen down.  I'm afraid my time of walking here is soon going to be done, because once it snows it'll be too hard to get around in here.  I'm sad to see this season end.

We had some not good excitement last week also.  Alaina was feeling funny and had a rapid pulse so Aaron took her to the Urgent Care. When they checked her, they called an ambulance to take her to the Grand Rapids Children's Hospital.  Laura called me to come asap to be with Ruby.
It was a long night waiting for tests and updates.

When Alaina started feeling better she asked Laura to take a picture and send it so we wouldn't worry.  I thought that was pretty sweet.

Ruby had me take this picture of her with their dog Piper to send back to Alaina.

Around midnight they came back home. She was diagnosed with something called Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome. It's a syndrome you are born with which is caused by an extra electrical pathway in the heart which can cause a rapid heart rate.
She had to see a cardiologist the next day.  Ruby came back to our house to spend the night until after the appointment.

The cardiologist said this can be treated by medication, but often then do an ablation.  Of course, Alaina isn't thrilled by the thought of that. She will have more testing and appointments before they decide what to do.

In the meantime, we are very thankful for answered prayers that she's doing well now and has a diagnosis and treatment plan. Prayers for peace for Alaina and parents, along with direction for the doctor are appreciated!

Well, that was scary! I am glad they found the issue and it can be treated. I am glad her parents didn't hesitate to take her to urgent care! I know they will make sure what needs to take place will take place. Prayers.

Oh my goodness! This is when I love our healthcare system though, to get her in and diagnosed so quickly! My husband had to have two ablations done, talk about miraculous procedures, so non invasive but amazing. Poor girl though. Not fun.

Oh my goodness!!! Well, it is very good that they were able to diagnose her, and now they know just what to do. I hope the meds work enough to avoid the ablation! I have been having ablations on my knees, but I don't know if it is the same thing for the heart. I am going to Google this syndrome and find out more about it. I am so glad she is home now and feeling better. Rest assured I will be praying for her, and for discernment for her cardiologist!

I will keep Alaina in prayer. I have heard of that. A friends daughter had that too around the same age. She is in her 30’s now and doing well.

Something like that is always so scary. As parents it's a worse nightmare if anything is wrong with our kiddos. But thank God she's okay and there are good answers to deal with her syndrome. I'll be praying for Alaina and all of the family for guidances - as they come to the answers that will work best... and for complete healing for sweet Alaina. 🙏🏻💗

I'm so thankful for the way things worked out in all of this, Mari. How frightening it must have been for everyone. Loved that Aliana thought about the picture so you all wouldn't worry...and Ruby's picture with Piper to send back as a reply was just as sweet. Prayers continue for the family.

How scary when the kids are not well. I am happy there is a way to deal with it. And life can go back to normal for her. But scary until you figure out what way to go.

Hi Mari, that is some scary stuff for a kiddo. I love, love, love that she wanted to send a cute picture of herself to let you know not to worry. What a little angel. Sending good wishes to you and your family.

I am so glad they found out what it was. She had no idea or problems before this?

My goodness. At least they know what they're dealing with. Of course, at her young age, at the cusp of adulthood, she wouldn't be too pleased about it but she's a smart girl so I'm sure she will understand it all. I'm just so glad she wasn't out and a out when this happened and was able to get a diagnosis and a plan so quickly. 🙏 for everyone and especially Alaina.

Wow, that must have been a scary experience for Alaina.
Praying for wisdom for her cardiologist and whoever else is involved in her treatment plan, that they would come up with the best decision.
