News from my little corner

I'm going to update you on a few things going on in my world, some good, some not.
Last week we had our repeat visit from a state inspector to clear us for our annual inspection.  We were thrilled when we passed it in one day.  She said we were a good facility and told us we have a good reputation in Lansing, our state capitol where the headquarters are.  That was high praise and made us happy.  She also said we had the hardest team doing our survey so we should be proud of our results.  We are!

Another thing that happened at work last week was an evacuation drill.  This is a new state requirement.  We have to have a mock disaster and evacuate the facility.  It's something we've always practiced, but without actually evacuating.  This was more intense.
Here's a bunch of us in the training room.  We had police, firemen and some state officials for this training.

They had everything planned out.  We were told there was a gas leak in the facility.  We first went over what we would do in the situation, then had to go out and clear one wing of the facility.

I'm sure the neighbors wondered what was going on.  Fire trucks, ambulance and police, and then a lot of residents in wheelchairs and walkers lined up in the front of the building.
It went very well, and we got everyone out quickly.  However, one man complained of chest pain and ended up being sent to ER.  He returned later that evening without any problems.
It's a good thing to practice!

Speaking of chest pain, a good friend that I work and go to church with had a heart attack this past week.  She's only 55 and isn't someone who has had health issues.  They found that 3 arteries were significantly blocked. During stent placement something went wrong and they had to go back in the next day.  She then had internal bleeding and went into cardiac arrest.  Thankfully they were able to stabilize her and she was moved out of ICU on Saturday.  She's doing well but has a lot to recuperate from.  It's a good reminder that our plans are not set in stone.  Only God knows what each day will bring and we need to have our hearts right with him.

So glad your workplace passed the work inspection and that you had the drill. It's always good to practice because so much rides on successful evacation in the case of a real emergency. Sorry to hear about your work mate and sister in Christ. I pray for a good recovery. It's so true that only God knows what lies ahead for any one of us.

Congratulations on passing your inspection AND for the good results on the practice evacuation. Your facility sounds like a place I would feel comfortable having a family member or friend (or me!) in. We have a few good ones here, but more are not so good. :(

I'm glad your friend is recuperating now. Thank goodness she was at the hospital when the other problems came up. You are so right about none of knowing what lies ahead. We sure need to make sure our soul is in a good place!

Your facility looks like a wonderful place. I have a 95-year-old father-in-law so I know about long term care from the other side...the resident's. Glad you had a perfect evaluation!

Oh, I'm so sorry about your friend! She is young, and hopefully, she will recover to 100%!
We just never know, do we?
It is wise to live each day striving to grow closer to our Heavenly Father.

Good job on passing the inspection!
It can be stressful, and now that it's over with and you guys passed with flying colors, you can relax :)

Passing inspection is stressful and glad it went well. Sorry about the fellow who had the chest pains but like you said it is good to have practice times. Sorry about your friend and glad she has pulled through.

Wow, this post was a roller coaster ride! I have never experienced anything like those drills you all have to undergo at work. It must be such a relief when it's all over. I am so sorry about your friend but thank God she got excellent care and the worst is over (I hope). My doctor was just telling me last Friday about the way women's heart attack symptoms are so different from men's and how they're often missed. I knew that because I've read about it, but it was good to be reminded. xoxo

So glad you're friend (hopefully) will recover nicely. Goodness, she went through a lot.

I'm really not surprised that your care facility had high ranks; with you there I know that helped. You're a winner in my book also, Mari.

xoxo

Sorry to hear about the man with chest pains that had to be transported to ER, but glad he was okay. I've often wondered how many facilities actually do the practice. Thank you for sharing about yours.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend at work and church having had a heart attack at such a young age. I'll be praying for her. She's had SO much going on...especially with appearing to be quite healthy. It is just another instance of we never know what is waiting for us around the next turn.

I know it sounds corny but you really never know when the Lord is going to take us home, and you are right that we have to have our hearts right with him.
