Going buggy!

We did such a fun craft when the girls were with us this past weekend.

I saw a cute shirt idea, and we worked on it Friday night, so Grandpa was home and could help.  If you ever need t-shirts for a kids project, Hobby Lobby is the place to go.  They have them for $2.99. The other things you need are fabric paint and a fine line sharpie marker.

Put the paint on a paper plate, and then dip a thumb in it, scattering different color thumbprints over the shirt.  Put a thin piece of cardboard or several sheets of paper inside the shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding though.

Grandpa said that trying to help Ruby was like wrestling an alligator!  I had to make one of her thumbprints into a caterpillar because it was quite smudged.

Alaina did pretty good doing it on her own.

There wasn't much of a mess when we were done, but Ruby did manage to get a little on her chin.

Let the paint dry for 3-4 hours.
Now it's time to use that sharpie to make the thumbprints into bugs.  Add antenna, wings, feet, eyes... just have fun!
I did this after the girls were in bed.

Here's a close up of one of the shirts.

And here are the girls the next morning modeling their buggy shirts!

How very cute!! The shirts are very cute too! :) Hobby Lobby has a great inventory of t-shirts in all sizes. You did a great job making those thumbprints into bugs! A very fun craft.

This is adorable! I love how the bright bugs look against the pink shirts. I agree, HL has the best shirts. I always buy them there when I need one for a craft. Good tote bags and aprons for decorating too!

How cute! You come up with the best activities and I know the girls love doing them. The shirts are perfect and the look on their faces say the same!

Oh this brought back memories of my preschool teaching days. We did a craft similar to this. It seems in the fall I miss doing all the painting and crafts we did with the little ones. The girls did a great job. I had to laugh at Grandpa helping Ruby!!

What a great idea! I've noticed they sell really cheap plain t-shirts in Hobby Lobby. Actually Walmart do as well. So the girls didn't mind that you made their thumb prints into bugs then? :D

The t shirts are adorable, but the girlies are the cutest! This is really sweet. I need to try this soon. Thanks for your sweet comment about David. I haven't forgotten you. I think about you all the time. I think Id still be blogging if it weren't for our slow internet service. We hope to get a new carrier soon. With David's illness, our minds have been on other things. Love ya girl. Enjoy those GRANDS! They truly are grand!

Look at you! I can see the artist gene runs free and wild in your family. My bugs would look like smushed amoebic bodies, I am afraid. Nevertheless this is a fantastic idea and I plan to try it with Dagny! Thanks, Mari! xoxo
