Spring floods

Our area has been under flood warnings this past week.  The Grand River which is a little over a mile from us has really overflowed its banks.  This isn't unusual in the Spring, with the snow melting and Spring rain falling.  Apparently this is widespread this year - all the Great Lakes gained a lot of water; 5.1 trillion gallons of water in the first 12 days of April due to snowmelt and a lot of rain!
Our home is higher than the river so we are quite safe and have never had to deal with flooding, but some that live closer deal with water in their houses every Spring.
Bob and I went down to the river this weekend to check it out.  Here's a few pictures of what we found.

It's hard to tell without comparison, but the water is much closer to the bottom of the bridge than usual.

Walkways have been covered by water.

The woods are now filed with water.

This is the top of a picnic table!

The sign is pointing out a walking trail.  No walking right now!

The road has been closed.

Another road that can't even be seen.

The river bank is covered.  All these trees are usually on a grassy bank.
Its hard to even imagine how much more water has to fall to cause this much flooding.  It's interesting to walk around and see it in person.

Glad your house is above the flood stage, and you are right, that's a lot of water for sure.

Wow!!! I hope the waters recede some for all those that live so close! Even, tho...it's pretty in its own way.

LOVE the MOPS post below this too, Mari. I too have a brown thumb when it comes to indoor house plants. Outdoors, okay....but indoors?

I am glad that your house is high and dry. I remember your pictures of the Grand River in years past. It is amazing sight!

Yep....I so can relate, smiles. I was actually thinking the same thing when I was coming home yesterday and saw the creek was way above near the road.

I'm thankful the flooding does not affect your property. Sad to see the walking trails and roads covered in water.

Glad you are safe and higher. Flooding and closed roads are inconvenient; We live near a creek and it rises pretty high at times but we don't live that close to be affected.

Water can do so much damage...hoping it recedes soon.

Flooding is unusual where I live, but the few times it hits I'm amazed at how damaging it can be.

Lots and lots of water! Glad y'all are safe from flooding. My parents had a weekend creek house that had flooded. They bought it, and had it fixed. After several years, they sold and not long after it flooded again. Yikes, I hated that for the newer owners.

We need rain badly here.

Gosh, that's serious flooding. I'm so glad you're okay where you are.

Wow! We haven't had any major issues here. Raining today - and actually we've needed it in my area.
Stay safe Sweetie! Xoxo

I'm happy you are well above the flooding! Water damage is devastating and I always wonder why people rebuild on the banks of rivers and lakes that always flood. Beyond my comprehension. The photos are amazing.

Thank God your house isn't in danger of flooding, but I feel for those who live with that scary possibility. That is some seriously high water! And to think, y'all had less snow rather than more this winter. We had a monsoon about a week ago but it's been dry since then. xoxo

Wow that's amazing, and how long does it take to go back to normal? I'm glad your home is safe.

I was glad to read that your house is not near the water. That is a lot of water! High water like that is scary. We are really dry right now and could use some rain.

Flooding can be so dangerous. I'm glad to know that your house is up higher than the water so that you are safe.
