Uninvited Guests

The other day Heather was looking out the dining room window into our back yard and she said there was something in the tree out there. It was getting dark and we couldn't see well so the next day we went out and saw this:

It's a huge wasp nest and it's way high up in the tree. It's at a place that would be impossible to get at with all the wasps buzzing around.
Bob is planning to knock it down when it gets colder and the wasps are more sluggish.
In the meantime, we are watching what may be flying at us, in our backyard!

uggh, that's so nasty. i'm not usually scared of those things, but with something like that, i don't think i'd dare go outside, especially since it's wasps and not bees. it only makes you wish for colder weather sooner.

It's just amazing what insects can build. That's huge! I'm not afraid of wasps and bees -- but I have a healthy respect for them!

Careful Bob! They can be nasty. We have a empty one hanging in our garage that we found years ago.

That looks like a hornets' nest. Yikes! Even with the nest so high up, I'm sure the bee traffic is substantial around the house. Do be careful!

Must be a good year for wasps, we had a very large next too! Hal gave it a big shot of wasp spray and a big whap and got rid of them!

Hopefully, no one in your family or neighbors are allergic like I am! I had one of these in a sweet smelling Japanese tree we used to have in our front yard of our California house. We had to call an exterminator to rid of it. I could not take the chance for me or the grand kids visiting. It cost us $100 but was so worth it.

The exterminator told us the bees/wasps travel and stop to rest and build a nest. There is no telling how long they will stay. Wasps stings are far worse than bees.

Please BE CAREFUL!!!

Well, it stopped me in my tracks. There is one of those on the house next door and I so want to get a broomstick and swat it BUT J says, "Honey, you're going to running for cover or better yet, you'll be covered before you toss the broomstick on the ground." It almost resembles a shark.

because of our extra warm summer - and lack of rain ... the wasps, yellow jackets and all that go bzzzzz are more in number ... but no mosquitoes! yay for that! :)

Not a fan of anything that stings. I think Bob's plan is a good one! Meanwhile, take care.
