My friend Pat from Living on Grace had this posted on her blog last week. I liked it and thought you would too.
~~~
I liked the old paths...when
Moms were at home, Dads were at work
Brothers went into the Army
And sisters got married before having children.
Crime did not pay, hard work did
And people knew the difference.
Mom could cook Dad would work
Children knew how to behave.
Husbands were loving, Wives were supportive
And children were respectful, appreciative and polite.
Women wore the jewelry
Men wore the pants.
Women looked like ladies. Men looked like gentlemen
And children looked presentable.
People loved the truth and hated lies.
Hymns sounded transcendent
Sermons sounded powerful
Rejoicing sounded wonderful
And crying sounded sincere
Cursing was wicked
Drugs were for illness
And divorce was unthinkable.
The flag was respected
America was Beautiful
And God was feared and honored!
We read the Bible in public
And preaching was heard everywhere.
To be called an American was worth dying for
To be called an American was worth living for!
I still like the old paths the best!
Oh the good old days, eh.
So true.
Well, the neat thing is that even tho' we don't see it around us, we can still choose to live that way from this day forward.
Have a wonderful week, Mari!
I also love the old paths taken. Unfortunately, to live life that way makes it near impossible to fit in. The norm is not old school.
That was so well put.
i love this and completely agree. wouldn't it be nice to have the good ole days back? i am still really old fashioned about alot of things but not many my age are.
You and I both, Mari!
Absolutely, the old paths are best!
That is sooooooooooo true. Wow, most powerful. It really makes all of us who live lives 'in the fast lane' of today wish for the 'old paths of yesteryear' once again.
In fact just the other day Bud and I were talking about how kids of our time were outdoors playing all day long without fear of kidnappings, any harm coming to us, and being the most healthy kids ever. What ever happened you wonder?!!
Perfect picture for the poem.
that is lovely.
Lovely. I still like the old paths best as well.
I wish the path in the picture was the lane leading to my home. Not possible, but a girl can dream...
That's so true! Thanks for sharing. :)
Me too!
Mari,
I would have to agree with you that I too, love the old paths better. Let's hope we can incorporate some of those time honored values into today's new paths.
Wow. This was so good. I loved every word.
Wonderful, Mari. We can still walk those old paths if we want to badly enough. God help us.
this is great. I love it.
I'm for old paths too.
Very nice I would like to walk that path in the picture right now!!
LOVE this!! I'm trying to create my own path just like this...it's hard these days, but the plowing is worth it!
What a great post...I love "6feetover" comment, too...I, too and trying to plow this same path...it IS tough! But by God's grace it will be well-worth it!
....and that's what we all want for our kids.
This brought tears to my eyes, Mari.
It is so true, and I am feeling nostalgic for how things used to be in this world.
Indeed it is time for major change to happen. And I believe it is!
Thanks for sharing this post.
Love
